About the Role
The team at BMA’s Hay Point Terminal in Mackay are looking for a Principal Safety to provide strategic leadership and technical expertise across the Hay Point. This is a pivotal role that will influence and shape our approach to occupational health and safety, ensuring we continue to deliver safe, healthy, and high-performing workplaces.
Reporting to the Health, Safety and Security Superintendent, you will:
- Develop and implement safety strategies, frameworks, and standards that align with BHP’s Charter Values and BMA’s operational priorities
- Provide expert advice on safety to site leaders and key stakeholders
- Partner with operations to proactively identify and manage safety risks, ensuring compliance with legislative and company requirements
- Champion a proactive safety culture that empowers our workforce to identify risks, take accountability, and care for one another
- Lead initiatives to improve safety and health outcomes and lead the development, implementation and continual improvement of safety and health strategies that align with BMA’s strategy
- Mentor and support safety and health professionals, building capability and consistency in safety and health processes
- Collaborate with technical specialists and external stakeholders to ensure BMA remains at the forefront of industry safety standards.
This is a residential based role at BMA’s Hay Point Terminal in Mackay working Monday to Friday. As this is a residential role FIFO options are not offered.
About You
You will bring previous experience and a drive to deliver safe, and high-performing workplaces.
- Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health, Health Science, Medicine, Safety, Science or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior health and or safety role, ideally within mining, heavy industry, or high-risk environments.
- Strong knowledge of occupational hygiene, health risk management, safety systems, risk mitigation frameworks and relevant legislation.
- Proven ability to influence senior leaders and drive outcomes through collaboration and expert guidance.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a focus on building trusted relationships.
- A passion for creating healthier workplaces and a demonstrated ability to deliver sustainable improvements.
- A commitment to visible safety leadership and creating a culture where everyone goes home safe, every day.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continual improvement of safety strategies, frameworks, and standards across BMA.
