BHP Operations Services purpose is enabling BHP through exceptional mining services. Operations Services delivers industry leading mining services across BHP operations Australia-wide with specialist capabilities in load and haul, fixed plant maintenance and mobile maintenance. We currently have an opportunity to join our Health, Safety and Security team as a Principal Safety. Reporting to our HSE Superintendent East, we are currently seeking a Safety Principal, to join the HSS team and support Operations Services. You will be a key member in a team of dedicated safety professionals in this complex, diverse and rewarding setting.

 

The role is full time permanent position based in Brisbane with regular travel required to support Operations Services. The opportunity requires you to provide leadership, coaching, strategic direction and expert support on BHP safety management systems and processes at Operations Services deployments across Queensland. Flexible working options are available.

 

You will be required to:

 

  • Engage and support the OS Lead team to deliver successful HSE outcomes
  • Build safety leadership capability through coaching, training and advice to maintain the desired safety culture to keep our people safer and healthier
  • Support leadership in risk assessments, event investigation, field leadership and compliance with legislative and business requirements
  • Develop data driven insights for leadership to support risk informed decisions and improvement
  • Lead functional and operational improvement initiatives to improve safety
  • Support the Asset implementation of HSS Business Plan.

About You

You will be a motivated and adaptable professional with excellent interpersonal skills. You will have a solid record of accomplishment of achieving results through influence, coaching and mentoring.

To be successful in the role, you will also have:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety, Risk Management or a related field
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to build trusted relationships and influence with leadership
  • Proven coaching and mentoring skills, with a genuine desire to help people, achieve outcomes and support continuous improvement
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills to effectively  plan work and travel with multiple stakeholders independently
  • Project Management and change management experience is highly regarded
  • Previous exposure to the mining and minerals processing industries is preferable; and
  • Microsoft Office suite competency is highly regarded.
