About the Role
We’re excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an experienced safety professional to join the Prominent Hill HSSEM team as a Safety Principal, supporting our PHOX Project.
Reporting to the Safety Superintendent, you will play a key role in providing expert advice, coaching, and support to leaders across site—helping drive a strong safety culture and continuous improvement.
This position is based at our Prominent Hill mine and is offered on an 8:6 (days-only) FIFO roster from Adelaide or Port Augusta. As this role is on a project the role is on a 12 month Fixed Term contract.
Key Responsibilities
• Coach the Project Delivery Team in their accountability for HSE risk management, field leadership, event investigation, and compliance with HSE requirements, including the contractor management framework
• Provide technical safety expertise to support the quality of HSE documentation, risk assessments, event investigations, and field leadership activities
• Coach, influence, and provide technical guidance to support continuous improvement and safety performance across the PHOX Project and contracting partners
• Support line leadership in understanding and complying with relevant HSE Our Requirements (GLD) and legal obligations
• Build strong stakeholder and customer relationships to understand expectations and operational needs
• Support safety assurance and governance activities
• Monitor performance, analyse data, and identify opportunities for improvement, emerging trends, and recognition across operational and contracting partners
• Participate in and support project safety routines and meetings
• Deliver coaching and training on safety systems and processes
• Facilitate and/or lead investigations and learning activities
• Lead, coach, and participate in field leadership activities, providing technical guidance to strengthen safety leadership culture and ensure compliance with company and legal requirements
About You
You’re a proactive and self-driven safety professional with a proven ability to achieve strong safety outcomes through coaching, influence, and driving positive change. You bring:
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in a safety role within mining, construction and/or commissioning (highly regarded)
• Minimum Cert IV in Occupational Health & Safety (OHS); a Graduate Diploma in OHS Management will be highly regarded
• An overriding commitment to BHP’s Charter Values
• Significant experience leading and supporting safety initiatives
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence at multiple levels, internally and externally
• Coaching and mentoring capability, with a genuine desire to help people, achieve meaningful outcomes, and support continuous improvement
• Ability to self-motivate, manage priorities, and interpret data to effectively deliver HSE support
• Strong attention to detail, supporting HSE accountability across functional and project teams
• A current South Australian “C” class driver’s licence, or equivalent
