About the Role:

Prominent Hill is a copper-gold mine, a long-life asset, that is part of the BHP South Australia copper province.  BHP is a global company with operations in Australia, North and South America across 5 different commodities.

As the Principal Safety, you will provide critical input into the development and improvement of a safety framework that enables BHP to deliver on the Charter Values of doing what is right, seeking better ways and making a difference across Prominent Hill.

  

Location: Prominent Hill, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 4 days on; 3 days off or 8 days on; 6 days off

In The Role You Will:

  • Lead the planning and enhancement of safety standards and facilitate the establishment of Safety procedures and systems.
  • Lead, support and facilitate workshops and project manage improvement projects to enhace organisational capability and culture in relation to Safety.
  • Provide technical safety expertise in risk management, learning and investigation and safety management systems and practices to improve organisational safety outcomes and performance.
  • Ability to create strong customer and stakeholder relationships to better understand their expectations and needs.
  • Communicates and role models the importance of having a customer focus to help others take greater accountability.
  • Support the development of Operation level strategies and improvement initiatives for material safety issues.
  • Monitor performance, analyse data and define improvements for operational and contracting partners to identify emerging safety trends, safety improvements and recognition.
  • Provide HSE expertise to line management on risks with Safety aspects and impacts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting as per business and legislative requirements.
  • Lead, coach and participate in field leadership activities to support and provide technical guidance to build a safety leadership culture and enhance understanding of compliance relevant to company and legal requirements.

About You:

You will be a self-motivated professional with a solid record of accomplishment of achieving safety performance through influence, coaching and mentoring.

 

You will also have:

  • Extensive experience in a safety role, mining or heavy industry will be highly regarded.
  • Minimum of Cert IV in OHS, tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience management health, safety or risk, Diploma preferred.
  • A passion for safety and a culture of care.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence at multiple levels in an organisation.
  • Strong HSE Management System experience, problem solving and data analytical skills.
  • Significant experience leading and supporting safety initiatives.
  • Valid unrestricted driver's licence. 
  • Experience with HS management tools.
  • Coaching and mentoring skills with a desire to help people with a lens of continuous improvement.
  • Ability to self-motivate, manage priorities and consume data to effectivity deliver safety support.
  • Experience in mining industry will be highly regarded.
