About the Role

As a member of the Olympic Dam (OD) Small Projects Planning & Controls team, you will apply technical electrical engineering expertise to support the design management of OD Small Projects portfolio in accordance with the BHP Small Projects Management Framework, relevant standards, and approved performance targets (HSE, cost, quality, schedule).

 

Success in this role will be achieved through engagement with BHP stakeholders, external design consultants and construction contractors. You will actively support OD Small Projects with design management across all project phases. You will be accountable for Engineering Services Providers delivering on technical specifications, project requirements, cost, schedule, and quality. 

 

This position will be based in Adelaide, with occasional site travel. 

 

In this role you will:

 

  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety by actively engaging in the BHP Field Leadership program.
  • Identify and assess risks, make risk-informed decisions, use BHP's risk management framework, and build a risk-aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
  • Apply electrical engineering expertise to support project development and delivery within the OD Small Projects portfolio (project values range from A$500k to US$30M).
  • Collaborate with project, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness specialists to ensure that engineering is developed to support their respective methodologies, standards, strategies, and systems.
  • Develop multidisciplinary design scopes of work and evaluate proposals from engineering service providers (ESPs).
  • Effectively plan, track, and manage ESP performance in line with BHP Small Projects Framework.
  • Manage the ESP’s design within project scope, implement effective change management and review and approve engineering design documentation to ensure alignment with project objectives and business requirements.
  • Employ specific and relevant discipline engineering expertise along with a whole lifecycle approach to deliver value-optimized designs.
  • Provide technical expertise in responding to technical queries during design and construction, escalating to subject matter experts (SME’s) when necessary.
  • Identify and coordinate initiatives to aimed at improving ESP performance, application of technical standards, and project outcomes.

About You

 

  • Formal Qualification in Engineering – Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or an aligned discipline. 
  • Relevant experience in minerals processing/production and mining, or other similar heavy industrial sectors – design management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience across a portfolio of technical projects with multiple delivery requirements.
  • Experienced in Design Services tendering, assessment, and engagement, including development of detailed scopes of work and bid evaluations, as well as providing input into contract development.
  • Experience in Instrumentation & Controls preferred.
  • Experience in managing engineering service providers.
  • Experienced in managing safety in design reviews and value engineering assessments.
  • A proactive, self-driven team player who operates with honesty and integrity.
  • Ability to manage internal stakeholders and external consultants and contractors through a program of multiple capital projects.
  • Ability to work flexibly from multiple job locations, including management of city-based consultants, and site-based contractors.
  • Good time management skills with an ability to managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated technical skills with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrate ability to work under pressure and challenging customer and project requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise reports for senior BHP business leaders.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing abilities.
