About the Role
• Act as the regional security Subject Matter Expert, ensuring risks and changes in the security landscape are understood and communicated to Group Security leadership.
• Lead or support responses to regional security incidents affecting personnel or operations.
• Manage and enhance travel and event security, particularly for ELT and Board visits.
• Serve as the focal point for security considerations during key events and leadership travel.
• Strengthen alignment between site security teams and Group Security on standards, methodologies and strategic direction.
• Ensure effective communication from sites to Group Security to identify improvement opportunities.
• Coach and mentor BHP and contractor security personnel to build capability across sites.
• Maintain an external network with intelligence and security agencies to generate insights for leadership.
• Conduct regional assurance activities under the annual assurance plan.
• Plan, manage and track security-related projects that deliver measurable value.
• Identify and assess risks using BHP’s risk management framework, fostering a risk‑aware and safety‑first culture.
• Benchmark approaches and standards against industry best practice and ensure regional calibration of travel and event security.
• Build strong internal and external relationships, gaining alignment and negotiating outcomes, driving safety, customer value and operational discipline through strong stakeholder engagement.
About You
- 15+ years of security industry experience and/or senior military or police service.
- Strong regional corporate security experience, ideally in mining, oil & gas, supply chain–focused industries, or similar government/military contexts.
- Proven performance in multinational organizations (extractives preferred) and professional working proficiency in English and Spanish (C2+).
- Demonstrated experience managing security risk exposures relating to organized crime, paramilitary conflict or civil unrest.
- Expertise in designing physical security frameworks and models across multiple locations, plus experience in implementing security programs.
- Experience coaching and leading multicultural teams, and influencing diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to represent large organizations in external-facing roles.
- Experience navigating complex, matrixed environments across multiple time zones and cultures.
- Track record in shaping inclusive, high-performing teams and working effectively under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage senior leadership confidently.
- Ability to work independently within a small, values-driven team demonstrating integrity, humility and trust.
- Proven capability in making critical decisions with limited information and managing change under stress.
- Demonstrated success in project management within large organizations.
- Security clearance with relevant governments is also highly desirable.
