About Copper SA
BHP’s copper province in South Australia (Copper SA) comprises the Olympic Dam, Prominent Hill and Carrapateena underground mines, with smelter and refinery complex at Olympic Dam. The company is also progressing the Oak Dam exploration prospect.
About the Role
As the Principal Strategy and Business Planning you will lead the development, evaluation, and delivery of medium to long-term strategic plans and investment opportunities for Copper SA. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the Asset’s future by driving the Corporate Alignment Planning (CAP) cycle, stewarding investment decisions, and aligning strategic initiatives with BHP’s long-term value creation goals.
You will also lead cross-functional projects, facilitate strategic decision-making, and ensure alignment with BHP’s operating model, customer needs, and capital allocation framework.
This role is based in Adelaide, with travel to site as required.
As part of this role you will

Lead the framing, evaluation, and communication of risk-reward propositions for strategic decisions and investment opportunities.

Drive the execution of CAP deliverables and support capital and resource allocation aligned with BHP’s strategic goals.

Identify areas for process improvement and redesign processes accordingly.

Translate corporate objectives into actionable plans and track their implementation and performance.

Facilitate strategic workshops and deliver compelling presentations to influence senior stakeholders.

Define value drivers, decision boundaries, and constraints to assess opportunity viability.

Manage complex projects, including planning, risk management, and success evaluation.

Build trust-based relationships across internal and external stakeholders to influence outcomes.

Apply a deep understanding of BHP’s operating model, value chain, and ways of working to enhance decision quality and productivity.

Role model inclusive leadership, coach others, and contribute to a high-performance team culture.
About You
- Tertiary qualification in finance, engineering, business, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience leading CAP cycle processes and strategic planning in a complex asset or function.
- Strong commercial acumen and experience with investment evaluation tools (e.g. decision trees, value of information).
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and influence senior stakeholders.
- Familiarity with BHP systems such as SAP, Prime, SAC, and GRC.
- Strong analytical, facilitation, and storytelling skills.
- Experience with BHP Operating System (BOS) and a passion for continuous improvement.
- A collaborative, inclusive, and customer-focused mindset.
