The challenge Ahead

The purpose of this role is to provide governance leadership across a portfolio of investments, integrating diverse perspectives into decision-quality recommendations that support value-maximising investment decisions for BHP. The role offers significant exposure to senior leaders, including Vice Presidents and Presidents, and the opportunity to influence some of BHP's most critical investment decisions.

Main Responsibilities:

•    Lead and coordinate the development of key investment governance deliverables, including investment approval papers, governance submissions, Board papers and other decision-support materials for major capital projects.
•    Act as the governance focal point for capital investments, integrating technical, operational, commercial and functional inputs into a clear, coherent and compelling investment narrative.
•    Support the development of robust investment cases and manage governance processes in compliance with BHP's Our Requirements and applicable local requirements.
•    Drive alignment on the investment intent, including the Minimum Viable Solution (MVS) and Optimised With/Optimised Without (OW/OWO) framing, ensuring these principles are clearly reflected throughout study deliverables and investment decisions.
•    Navigate complex governance and executive review processes, managing competing priorities, diverse stakeholder perspectives and compressed schedules to achieve alignment and deliver decision-quality documents that support timely investment decisions.
•    Identify opportunities to optimise value, strengthen investment outcomes and preserve value throughout the study and approval lifecycle.
•    Provide governance guidance and constructive challenge to project teams, ensuring decision documents clearly articulate key risks, opportunities, assumptions and value drivers.
•    Facilitate alignment across project teams, functions and senior leaders to support effective decision making and successful progression through governance milestones.
•    Capture and apply lessons learned, governance best practices and continuous improvement opportunities to enhance the quality and efficiency of investment decision making across the portfolio.

What We Expect From You

Required:

•    Degree qualification in Engineering, Project Management, Business, Finance or a related discipline.
•    Postgraduate qualification in Business, Finance or Project Management is desirable.
•    Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, reconcile diverse viewpoints and build alignment under challenging timelines.
•    Demonstrated experience preparing and coordinating high-quality governance, investment and approval documentation for senior leadership, executive committees or Boards.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across technical, operational and executive audiences.
•    Experience working on major capital projects, strategic investments or other complex business initiatives.
•    Strong understanding of business case development, governance frameworks and value-based decision making.
•    Sound commercial acumen and understanding of project value drivers, risks and opportunities.
•    Strategic and analytical thinker with the ability to distil complex information into concise, decision-quality recommendations.
