About the Role

 

Reporting to the Manager of Sustainability Controllership, the newly created Principal, Sustainability Controllership role provides an exciting opportunity to help shape BHP’s sustainability-related financial reporting in a time of rapidly evolving expectations.

 

The successful candidate will focus on developing and implementing policies for financial reporting of sustainability matters and will play a key role in ensuring an enterprise-wide approach to broader sustainability reporting and governance. The role will support timely and accurate analysis to drive insight that enables internal and external customers to make informed decisions.

 

The Principal, Sustainabiltiy Controllership will have exposure across a wide spectrum of stakeholders, processes and issues.

 

Accountabilities of this role include, but are not limited to supporting:
 

  • Group-wide delivery of integrated sustainability and financial reporting, both internal and external, in compliance with the enterprise sustainability agenda and strategy and financial governance framework.
  • Implementation of Group-wide financial reporting policies for sustainability-related financial reporting.
  • Provision of timely and accurate analysis to drive insight that enables internal and external customers to make informed decisions.

 

The successful candidate will also be accountable for:
 

  • Applying an understanding of the business context, BHP Operating System (BOS) and ways of working to enhance decision-making, productivity and value chain performance. 
  • Influencing outcomes through engagement with, and leveraging of capabilities of, an extensive array of stakeholders across the entire organisation.
  • Providing an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development including managing fatigue and mental wellbeing. 

About You

 

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Finance or similar degree is required; Chartered Accountant or CPA qualification is preferred.
  • Financial or sustainability reporting and governance experience in a large global organization is required; including familiarity with ESRS, ISSB, ASRS or Sarbanes-Oxley (preferred).
  • Judgement and decision-making skills and an appreciation of strategic and business critical objectives.
  • Experience building, managing, and sustaining strong working relationships with a range of internal customers as well as building trusting partnerships with external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills ensuring connection across global stakeholders, distilling key messages, influencing through data, and conflict management.

This role can be base at our BHP Australia corporate office in Brisbane, Perth, or Adelaide.
