About the Role

 

Leads technology research and intelligence within the Market Analysis and Economics team (MAE), focusing on identifying, analysing, and integrating emerging technologies and disruptive trends that impact commodity markets. Partners closely with stakeholders across teams to develop thematic narratives and actionable market insights that inform business processes across the organisation.

 

  • Identify, monitor, and assess emerging technologies impacting commodity markets, with emphasis on China and other key regions (including Chinese technology and product exports). Maintain a database of technology readiness levels, commercialisation timelines, and adoption rates.
  • Monitor and communicate policy developments and regulatory changes that may accelerate or hinder technology adoption and their market impact.
  • Develop technology-linked thematic analysis, synthesising insights from research reports, industry conferences, networking, and internal analysis to anticipate market shifts and their commodity impacts.
  • Quantify technology adoption curves and signposts to support modelling of future scenarios and provide foresight on emerging trends.
  • Communicate technology trends and market implications in clear, accessible language to senior stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure thematic frameworks are robust, consistent, and aligned with organisational objectives while promoting continuous learning and systems thinking within the team.

 

Pivotal Experiences for the role

 

  • Experience tracking and analysing industrial and technological innovation, especially in China, with a focus on intelligence gathering, market analysis, or thematic research.
  • Track record researching and interpreting policy signposts into analytical insights, with familiarity in scenario planning and uncertainty analysis.
  • Strong communication skills to influence senior stakeholders and translate technical insights into commercial and strategic advice.
  • Experience collaborating across teams on cross-functional projects, synthesising technology trends and communicating market implications.
  • Results-focused with track record of learning and adapting to solve problems, ideally in large multinational corporations.

About You

 

  • Experience in the new energy vehicle (NEV) sector or broader automobile industry in China, relating to technology adoption and market transitions.
  • Familiarity with technology adoption modelling and scenario planning, plus understanding of Chinese industrial innovation and global technology trends.
  • Strong analytical and research skills focused on technology and market intelligence, including long-run modelling and thematic development, with pattern recognition and systems thinking abilities.
  • Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail and big picture, plus clear communication across technical and business audiences.
  • Collaborative mindset to work effectively in cross-functional teams, demonstrating learning agility and comfort with evolving responsibilities.
