About the role

 

An exciting opportunity has risen to join the Newman Operations team as Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer and Responsible Dam Engineer within the Site Support team.

 

This role is full time, permanent and can be offered as 5:2 Residential or FIFO 5/2 4/2 

 

In this role you will have opportunities to further develop as a dam professional by undertaking the Future Tails program, an industry leading global tailings management program developed through partnership between The University of Western Australia, Rio Tinto and BHP.

 

You will be resonsible for:

 

  • Accountable for operation-level activities for the safe design, construction, operation, maintenance, and closure of the TSF and ARDF
  • Interacting with the Dam Owner, Risk Owner and the Engineer of Record (EoR) on all significant TSF and ARDF management activities and informing the Dam Owner of the status of the facilities.
  • Responding to dam integrity issues and supporting operations with remedial actions.
  • Ensuring compliance to risk management practices through critical control ownership, activities & verifications.
  • Management of contractors & consultants to deliver value.
  • Providing subject matter expert (SME) input for TSF and Dam designs and projects as required e.g. wall raises and remediation works.

 

About You

 

As the successful candidate you will ideally possess the following:

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or other tertiary Engineering qualifications).
  • Experience in Tailings or water dam management and managing operational upstream raised TSFs.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills & the ability to communicate effectively and influence across multiple levels and disciplines.
  • Continuously thrive for continuous improvement and contribute to the identification, development and implementation of improvement opportunities.
  • Familiarity with 1SAP and Risk management tools.
