About the Role:

Prominent Hill is a copper-gold mine, a long-life asset, that is part of the BHP South Australia copper province.  BHP is a global company with operations in Australia, North and South America across 5 different commodities.

Reporting to the Senior Production Engineer, you will join our dynamic and results-driven team as we continue to focus on safety, production, performance and business improvement.

You’ll be a valued and trusted technical advisor for the production team and drive initiatives that enable operational excellence.

This role is critical in assisting the production team in day to day problem solving and playing a pivotal role in the team to find sustainable solutions through problem solving or improvements opportunities identified through data analysis or in-field observations.

Regularly engaging with frontline crews and planning, you’ll be determining the practicality of new ideas, and supporting development of plans / schedules / forecasts. You can also expect to be involved with assessing equipment capability, creating operating standards, procedures and work instructions.

Location: Prominent Hill, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 8 days on; 6 days off

In This Role You Will:

  • Design drilling, blasting and production plans. 
  • Liaise with all stakeholders to ensure drill and blast designs meet site requirements. 
  • Regular time-in-field (3-4 times a swing) to ensure drill and blast activities are achieved in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Review of drilling, blasting and production plans as required.
  • Undertake QA/QC monitoring for production activities. 
  • Undertake stope reconciliations/abandonments upon completion.
  • Manage and monitor the iKon III electronic blasting system.
  • Monitor and maintain quality data with respect to underground performance. 
  • Undertake any projects necessary to improve processes and practices. 
  • Design of Mine Development Plans (MDPs) as required. 
  • Assist other Mining Engineering functions as required.
  • Assist with incident investigations and implement actions leading to continuous improvement of the site’s safety performance.
  • Conduct Task observations and Critical Control Verifications (CCV) as required.
  • Complete hazard identification, rectification and reporting in line with site requirements.

About You:

  • Significant experience working in an underground, hard rock, metalliferous mine environment.
  • Underground practical experience.
  • Proven experience in drill and blast design in sub-level open stoping.
  • Previous experience in short term scheduling preferred but not essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to be motivated and self-directed to achieve project outcomes.
  • Proven ability to work in high pressure and dynamic environments.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships.
  • Previous experience to actively promote safe production and processes.
  • Proven ability to work independently in office and underground.
  • Well developed Microsoft Office and Deswik suite software experience.
