About BMA

Queensland Coal operations mine metallurgical coal, essential for making steel! Located in the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland these assets are owned 50:50 by BHP and Mitsubishi Development to form the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), Australia’s largest producer and supplier of seaborne metallurgical coal. BMA operates both open-cut (Goonyella, Saraji, Peak Downs & Caval Ridge) and underground mines (Broadmeadow) in the region, and owns and operates the Hay Point Coal Terminal near Mackay

About the Role

This is a full-time role with residential, DIDO or FIFO options, on a Monday to Friday roster with flexible work arrangements.

Reporting to the Manager Mining Production you will be tasked with supporting the Production teams in achieving the safe production of metallurgical coal to the QLD supply chain. Your ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a variety of key stakeholders across the BHP business will be integral to your success.

 

Key Responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Evaluating safety and operational performance and driving change to maximise safety, cost and volume performance through processes, equipment and technology initiatives.
  • Implementing corrective actions to resolve the root cause of complex operational risks/deficiencies and prevent re-occurrence.
  • Implementing improvements that guide teams to focus on activities that add value.
  • Considering and explaining the risk implications of different alternatives and using this to make effective and informed decisions.
  • Embedding BOS principles across the team.
  • Conducting regular leader-led improvement reviews/assessments to support teams to capture, track and implement improvement ideas for all routine activities on site.
  • Partnering with relevant operational and functional teams (e.g. HSE, Risk) to develop and govern site standards/procedures for pre- and post-shift safety rhythms and routines.

 

About you

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced operational leader ideally with a background mining operations. You are extremely output focused with a demonstrated track record in mentoring and coaching others to achieve outstanding results. You possess excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build effective business partnerships. 

As the successful candidate, you will ideally possess the following:

  • Demonstrated experienced in a similar level role – ideally 2 years as a Superintendent.  
  • Degree qualified in a related discipline is preferable however not essential
  • A genuine desire to nurture positive relationships through effective communication and open consultation.
  • Solution focused with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • An agile thinker with the ability to collaborate with others to achieve results.
  • A genuine passion and drive to create an inclusive workplace which is free from harassment, discrimination and victimisation.
  • The ability to work effectively with others and provide constructive feedback where appropriate.
