About the Role

 

 

As part of the Carrapateena Project Delivery team, the Project Engineer – Mechanical provides technical leadership and project delivery capability across the full project lifecycle.

 

The role is responsible for defining project scope, reviewing engineering design, coordinating consultants and contractors, and supporting construction and commissioning activities to safely deliver projects in accordance with the BHP Small Projects Management Framework (SPMF).

 

Success in this role requires strong engagement with internal stakeholders, engineering consultants, construction contractors and suppliers to deliver practical, fit-for-purpose solutions within an operating processing plant environment.

 

 

Based at Carrapateena, this role is offered FIFO from Adelaide or Port Augusta on a 4/3, 5/2 roster

 

 

 In this role you will:

 

  • Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety and environmental performance.

  • Develop scopes of work and technical specifications for mechanical projects.

  • Support early works engineering to ensure practical and fit-for-purpose design solutions.

  • Review and coordinate mechanical engineering deliverables including drawings, specifications and calculations.

  • Provide mark-ups and updates to CAD drawings where required.

  • Manage and respond to technical queries from contractors and engineering consultants.

  • Support project estimation, budgeting and monitoring of project expenditure.

  • Identify defects, technical risks and implement appropriate risk ranking and mitigation.

  • Participate in and facilitate HAZOP / CHAZOP studies where required.

  • Provide practical mechanical engineering solutions to maintain plant operation while permanent remediation is developed.

  • Coordinate with construction teams during installation, inspection and commissioning of mechanical equipment.

  • Support installation and commissioning of pumps, piping systems, tanks, structural steel and rotating equipment.

  • Follow 1SAP work management processes including cost and work order management.

  • Support troubleshooting and engineering assessment of operational plant issues requiring project intervention.

 

About You

 

  • Mechanical Engineering qualification recognised by Engineers Australia.

  • Experience delivering projects across design, construction and commissioning phases.

  • Demonstrated experience delivering brownfield mechanical projects in operating process plants (mining, oil & gas, heavy industry or similar).

  • Experience coordinating engineering, construction and commissioning activities in live operating environments.

  • Experience supporting installation, tie-ins or modifications to operating processing plants.

  • Ability to review, mark up and modify CAD drawings (AutoCAD or equivalent) to support project delivery.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

  • Experience working with contractors and engineering consultants.

  • Experience with 1SAP work management systems (desirable).

  • Strong commitment to safety and the confidence to lead by example.
