About the Role

 

South Flank is BHP's newest iron ore mine, and the biggest in 50 years. It expands existing infrastructure at Mining Area C, adding 80 Mtpa of new crushing and screening capacity, an extensive overland conveyor system, expanded stockyards and new train loading facilities to form the largest iron ore hub in the Pilbara region. Its brand new mining fleet is the biggest and best in class, and has been converted to autonomous operation, in line with South Flank's future-facing design.

 

Reporting to the South Flank Production Enablement Superintendent, you will play a key strategic role in supporting a safe and efficient mine operations at the MAC hub with strong focus on promoting an excellent workplace safety culture and compliance to operating procedures, good practices and legislative requirements.

 

In addition, you will play a key role in:

 

  • Ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Work Health and Safety Regulations Mines & General 2022 and any person acting on behalf of the mine operator, performs all duties imposed on that person under the Act
  • Notify and report any notifiable or reportable incidents in mining areas to Regulator
  • Providing information and responding to inspector’s queries where required related to incidents and site inspection notices and defects
  • Direct and control the quarry operations at the mine, subject to the direction of the Mine Operator or SSE
  • Control and supervise of the quarry operations at the mine
  • Ensure that every person who is appointed to perform any duty under the Act for quarry operations understands the nature and scope of that duty
  • Assist the SSE of the mine to manage an emergency occurring at the part of the mine where quarry operations are carried out
  • Ensure the WAIO HSE Management System (HSE MS) process and procedures are implemented at site, and controls are reviewed and remain effective
  • Conducting routine inspections, Identify and manage hazards and risks, including principal mining hazards, and ensure safe work practices so far as is reasonably practicable
  • Anticipates risks based on analyses of operational trends and industry events and develops operational strategies to proactively promote early identification of risks across site
  • Build partnerships and maintain strong working relationships with customers and key internal or external stakeholders

About You

 

This role is ideal for a proactive leader with strong problem solving skills as well as a high level of motivation and drive which will ensure you are able to support our team in identifying and delivering projects to optimise our operation in terms of Safety, Volume, Cost and Culture.  Your exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are a must, enabling you to build relationships across departments and to communicate with disciplines at all levels.

 

  • WHS Unrestricted WA Quarry Managers Certificate
  • Extensive experience working in quarry and mining operations with a strong track record of leadership
  • Collaborative relationship building and negotiation skills
  • Sound computer literacy with exposure to interpreting shift metrics to drive optimal production behaviours and make timely changes
  • “C" Class unrestricted driver’s licence or national equivalent
