About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Rail Grinding Supervisor to join the Rail Network Maintenance team at WAIO. Reporting to the Asset Integrity Superintendent, you will lead the safe and effective execution of rail grinding activities while supporting the reliability and integrity of BHP's rail network.
This leadership role is offered on an 8 days on / 6 days off, 7 nights on / 7 days off roster and will be FIFO from Perth.
As Rail Grinding Supervisor, you will provide frontline leadership to operational and contractor teams, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with regulatory and business requirements.
Key Responsibilities

- Lead and coach teams in the application of BHP Operating System (BOS) principles and practices.
- Identify, support, and implement continuous improvement opportunities across maintenance activities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across operational and maintenance teams.
- Execute weekly maintenance plans and drive schedule compliance to achieve daily work execution targets.
- Review and optimise weekly work schedules to meet work management standards and operational requirements.
- Support the strategic objectives of the Asset Integrity function.
- Champion field leadership activities and actively participate in site safety and risk management programs.
About You
You are a proactive leader with a strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, and people development. Your ability to build relationships, manage risk, and lead teams in a dynamic operational environment will enable you to succeed in this role.
You will also bring:
- Demonstrated safety leadership and a strong track record of field leadership participation.
- Experience supervising contractor or service provider work groups.
- Rail grinding, ultrasonic testing, rail maintenance, engineering, or related asset integrity experience.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong risk management and critical-thinking capabilities.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A process-driven approach with a focus on planning, execution, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to work autonomously and effectively manage competing priorities.
- High levels of professionalism, integrity, and respect for confidentiality.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Experience working within the BHP Operating System (BOS).
- Knowledge of 1SAP work management processes.
- Experience within heavy industry, rail operations, mining, or asset integrity environments.
