About the Role

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Rail Transport Coordinator to join the growing Rail Operations Central Mines team. Reporting to the Rail Transport Supervisor, this role is based on site at Yandi and will work on a 14/14 FIFO roster.

 

Working closely with our partners and customers across Rail and Integrated Operations, you will be responsible for overseeing the allocation of Mainline rail crew to revenue trains servicing our South Flank, Mining Area C and Yandi mines.

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Allocation of mainline rail crew to trains to ensure the safe and efficient running of the rail network in your area of responsibility.
  • Monitoring the rail network in real time and collaborating with Rail Control and Scheduling teams to optimise train movements.
  • Responding to deviations and breakdowns by collaboratively problem solving with teams across Rail Operations, Rail Control, Rollingstock, Maintenance and Scheduling to safely recover from unplanned events. 
  • Identifying risks and opportunities in rail safety and productivity, and working closely with rail crew, operational leaders and supporting teams to improve Rail every day.

About You

 

  • Overriding commitment to safety. Able to effectively identify and manage risk in a Rail Operations environment.
  • Demonstrated rail experience in operational roles that require excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communicator and adept at building relationships and trust with your peers and leaders.
  • Enjoy working in a dynamic and fast-paced operational setting where overcoming challenges and problem solving are part of every day.
  • Able to manage competing priorities and confidently exercise good judgement when making decisions that protect people while maximising the productivity of the railroad.
  • Sound computer literacy, confident in using standard applications such as MS Word and Excel. Able to learn and use BHP’s computer-based scheduling and decision support tools.

 

Experience as a Train Driver, Live Run Coordinator or Rail Operations leader are highly desirable.
