About the Role

 

As a resources company operating across the world, BHP has an important role to play in the transition to a low carbon future.  The Steel Decarbonisation program is a key component of BHP’s social value framework and we have a 2030 goal to support development of steel production technology and pathways capable of 30% emission reduction compared to conventional blast furnace steelmaking.  We have an exciting opportunity for an individual based in India to join the team to drive decarbonisation initiatives with our partners and play an active role in industry-leading projects.

 

Reporting to the Head of Steel Decarbonisation Partnerships in the Sales & Marketing Sustainability team, this position plays a pivotal role for our business in leading collaborations with our partners in India supporting the execution of our Scope 3 Action Plan and understanding the role of our products in a decarbonised world.

 

Key accountabilities


•    Supports BHP’s Scope 3 Action Plan and Business Strategy in steel decarbonisation

•    Provides local project development, management and liaison for the India portfolio, connecting strategy and plans with our projects for efficient and high-quality outcomes

•    Is a trusted contact to lead engagement and establish strong working relationships with steel producers and other local stakeholders including R&D institutes, technology vendors and government departments

•    Manages and supports technical test work, R&D or other programs with partners and vendors

•    Provide technical, commercial and strategic advice into team strategy and plan and project design and the wider decarbonisation portfolio initiatives

•    Prepares and presents BHP’s views on steel decarbonisation in local forums and conferences

•    Monitors industry developments and technology changes in Indian and the global steel and CCUS sectors and assesses the impact on BHPs portfolio, markets and customers.

About You

 

•    10-15 years exposure to the steel/ferrous and expertise in blast furnace steelmaking and preferably in including operational or technical support roles
•    Preferred understanding or exposure to carbon abatement process technology and industry trends
•    Experience in client-based project work, including structuring and managing of engineering and feasibility studies, preferably through previous industry or engineering consulting or business development roles with an international firm
•    Demonstrated experience in engaging effectively with and influencing internal and external stakeholders at various organisational levels including senior executives with well-articulated spoken and written communication skills
•    Commercially minded with an ability to apply strategic thinking to solve complex problems and translate technical and other information into business outcomes
•    Project planning and execution skills that enable effective identification, prioritization and delivery of critical work through coordination of cross discipline and cross culture teams
•    Postgraduate or Doctorate degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy or related field will be an advantage
