About the Role
We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the WAIO HSS Northern Rail team in a permanent capacity. This role partners with line leadership across a mature, large-scale operating environment, supporting a broad stakeholder group across a vast footprint.
You will play a key role in proactively driving safety performance, uplifting capability and embedding BOS discipline through coaching, technical expertise and forward‑thinking risk management. This role offers strong growth and development opportunities and exposure across a complex and dynamic operational environment.
This is a permanent position, fly-in-fly-out (FIFO) from Perth on a 5:2 / 4:3 roster. Flexible work options will be considered.
In this role you will:
- Proactively partner with line leaders to strengthen accountability for Health & Safety risk assessments, event investigation, field leadership and compliance
- Drive disciplined use of BOS routines to improve visibility of risk, performance and learning
- Support accurate, transparent and forward‑looking Health & Safety data reporting to enable better decision-making
- Lead and coach safety improvement initiatives aligned to the Integrated Operations Plan (IOP)
- Uplift quality of risk assessments, event investigation and field leadership through coaching, feedback and visible field engagement
- Deliver safety training programs (e.g. task-based risk management, investigation facilitation) to build frontline capability
- Actively engage with leaders in the field to embed proactive verification of critical controls and expected standards
- Contribute to broader business improvement initiatives and projects
About You
You are a proactive, motivated and forward‑thinking safety professional who achieves outcomes through influence, coaching and strong engagement with operational leaders. You bring a mindset of continuous improvement, curiosity and challenge, and are passionate about building capability and driving safe, reliable operations.
You will also have:
- A proven passion for safety and a strong culture of care
- Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in Health and Safety or related field
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to influence at multiple levels
- Demonstrated coaching and mentoring capability with a focus on uplifting leader capability
- Experience applying BOS principles or structured performance routines to drive discipline and accountability
- Strong analytical capability (Power BI, Excel, Spotfire) to translate data into insights and actions
- Ability to proactively identify risks, anticipate issues and drive continuous improvement
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage priorities across a fast-paced operational environment
