We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Electrical Engineer, reporting to the Electrical Engineering Team Lead.

The Challenge Ahead

As a Senior Electrical Engineer within Copper South Australia, you will provide senior technical expertise and engineering leadership to enable safe, reliable, compliant and value-focused outcomes across some of Australia's most significant mining and processing assets.

Working within the Copper SA Engineering function, you will partner with Operations, Maintenance, Projects and technical teams across Olympic Dam, Carrapateena and Prominent Hill to solve complex engineering problems, provide specialist technical guidance, and support critical engineering decisions. You will apply engineering governance, standards and assurance processes to ensure electrical systems and engineering solutions are safe, fit for purpose and aligned with BHP requirements.

As a recognised technical subject matter expert, you will influence engineering decisions, support technical capability across the business through mentoring, coaching and the sharing of engineering knowledge, while contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, practices and asset performance.

Whether reviewing and developing engineering solutions, supporting management of change activities, providing technical assurance for projects and operational modifications, or supporting major operational risks, your work will directly contribute to the safe, reliable and sustainable operation of Copper South Australia's assets

What You'll Bring to the Role

You are a highly capable and collaborative Senior Electrical Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and influencing outcomes across multidisciplinary teams. You combine strong engineering judgement with deep technical expertise, a commitment to engineering excellence, and a passion for developing others.

You will bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering.
• Significant experience providing electrical engineering expertise within mining, processing, heavy industry, manufacturing, utilities, infrastructure, or similarly complex operational environments.
• Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex engineering challenges and apply sound engineering judgement in situations involving ambiguity, competing priorities and complex technical risk to support critical operational, project and business decisions.
• Experience acting as a recognised subject matter expert and providing technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, engineering risk management and technical assurance practices.
• Strong knowledge of applicable electrical standards, regulatory requirements, engineering governance frameworks and management of change processes.
• Experience reviewing and assuring engineering deliverables, technical assessments, engineering designs and modification packages.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence outcomes across operational, maintenance, project and engineering functions.
• Experience coaching, mentoring and developing engineers and technical professionals.
• A commitment to technical excellence, continuous improvement and fostering a safe, inclusive and high-performing culture.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Provide senior electrical engineering expertise and technical leadership across Copper South Australia.
• Act as a subject matter expert, independently resolving complex engineering challenges and providing technical advice to support critical operational, project and business decisions.
• Provide technical guidance and engineering support to Operations, Maintenance, Projects and Engineering teams on plant, operational and project-related issues.
• Review and assure engineering designs, modifications and technical deliverables to ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulatory requirements and BHP governance frameworks.
• Identify, assess and manage engineering risks, providing risk-based recommendations to support informed decision making.
• Support engineering assurance, technical review and management of change processes.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of engineering standards, practices and technical governance frameworks.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, reliable and sustainable engineering outcomes.
• Coach, mentor and share technical knowledge to strengthen engineering capability across Copper South Australia.

Work Location

This opportunity is based at our Adelaide Office, South Australia, on a Monday to Friday Roster, with occasional site travel required. The role provides the opportunity to work in a technically complex environment, supporting critical electrical infrastructure and assets that contribute to the production of copper, uranium, gold and silver.
