About the Role

 

As a Senior Functional Safety Engineer, you will play a key role in the technical delivery of functional safety initiatives across BHP’s WAIO operations. You’ll provide expert guidance on the implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of functional safety systems, supporting BHP’s maturing and robust safety framework. Your work will directly contribute to the safe and efficient operation of fixed plant assets and processes.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the technical delivery of functional safety solutions for fixed plant projects and operations
  • Provide subject matter expert advice and mentoring to project and site teams on best practices
  • Drive the development and continuous improvement of standards, procedures, and frameworks
  • Carry out governance activities, including reviews and field leadership for functional safety systems
  • Support the ongoing development of functional safety maturity across WAIO operations
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the technical standards are met
  • Maintain a broad view of technical risks and solutions, supporting teams across WAIO

About You

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering
  • Solid experience as a Functional Safety specialist, ideally in fixed plant operations
  • Recognised certification in Functional Safety (e.g., TUV FS Engineer, Exida CFSP)
  • Strong understanding of machine safety standards and their practical application
  • Demonstrated experience across the full functional safety lifecycle is desirable
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence at all levels
  • Commitment to mentoring and developing others
