About the Role

 

The Carrapateena Mine Technical and Technology Team is accountable for delivering value at the Asset in the short, medium and long term, against the needs of all stakeholders. 

 

With an immediate and core focus on delivery production outcomes, they have a secondary focus on leading the expansion of the mine by transitioning from a Sub Level Cave to a Block Cave – this will extend the Carrapateena mine life beyond 2039.

This role is based at Carrapateena on a FIFO 8 days on / 6 days off roster.

 

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for leading a team of engineers to execute:

 

  • All requirements of the ground control management plan (GCMP) including data collection, tactical ground support design, rock mass monitoring & QAQC

  • Ensuring adherence, and regular review and updates to geotechnical management plans (Ground Control, Seismic, Caving, QAQC, etc)

  • Analysis and interpretation of geotechnical data for input into short, medium and long term mine design (geometry and sequence)

  • Management of geotechnical databases

  • Internal auditing of geotechnical practices ensuring consistency with regulatory frameworks and BHP Copper SA strategy

  • High priority geotechnical tasks including, but not limited to: cave, seismic, ground control, and inrush risk management

  • Ongoing mentoring, coaching and guidance to graduates, junior engineers, and technicians

  • Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to drive value add projects

  • Consistent communications to key stakeholders with respect to geotechnical hazard management

  • Providing operational geotechnical support for growth projects associated with the upcoming block cave, e.g. Hydrofrac, BC monitoring installation

About You

 

  • Solid, demonstrated experience in underground hard rock Geotechnical Engineering

  • Sub-level caving and/or block caving experience will be highly regarded

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver and drive safe geotechnical practices

  • Experience managing a team of technical professionals

  • Experience using geotechnical and geological software (IMS suite, mXrap, Rocscience suite, Leapfrog Geo, Deswik)

  • Undergraduate qualifications in either geotechnical engineering, mining engineering, civil engineering or earth sciences (geology, geophysics)
