About the Role

 

We are seeking a dedicated operations Senior Geotechnical Engineer to play a vital role in our operational teams at one of our Open Cut Mines in the Pilbara. Reporting to the Lead Geotechnical and supported by a central geotechnical engineering group, you will be the single point of contact for geotechnical matters on site over your 8:6 roster with a back to back. Your primary purpose will be to provide essential geotechnical support to ensure the safe and economic extraction of Iron Ore along with driving improvement projects.

  • Core Accountabilities


  • Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development.
  • Provide leadership in identifying and managing geotechnical risks in mine design and execution across life of asset
  • Conduct geotechnical stability assessments and deliver designs for tactical planning.
  • Offer expert geotechnical advice to operational and planning teams to effectively manage hazards.
  • Perform inspections and monitoring of active mining areas, issuing geotechnical hazard reports and instrumentation requirements.
  • Continuously identify and implement opportunities for improvement in geotechnical practices.

About You

 

You are a proactive and autonomous professional with a strong understanding of technical risk in an open-cut mining environment. Your robust analytical and report-writing skills are complemented by your ability to maintain comprehensive data records. You are an excellent communicator, capable of building strong collaborative relationships and conveying complex geotechnical information to various stakeholders, from operators to mine planners.

 

Qualifications and Experience


  • A Bachelor's degree in geological engineering, engineering geology, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or mining engineering. A geology degree combined with a Master's in geotechnical engineering is also acceptable.
  • Experience in operational mining environment
  • Experience in mine geotechnical analysis and risk assessment, including slope design in soil and rock.
  • Working knowledge of Vulcan or Deswik, along with experience in Rocscience software and geotechnical monitoring equipment (radars, prisms piezometers), would be beneficial.
