About Olympic Dam

 

One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. The underground sub-level open stoping operation provides great opportunities to develop into a well-rounded mining professional.

 
This position is a 5:2 4:3 Olympic Dam based roster. Options include FIFO from Adelaide, DIDO from Regional SA, or Residential in Roxby Downs. We are open to discussing flexible working opportunities – including hybrid with Adelaide time!

About the Role

 

Reporting to the Superintendent Production Planning and Services, the Senior Mine Design Engineer provides support and inputs directly to the Mining Operation to meet the Mine Plan. This role offers a range of challenges associated with managing a group of engineers and technicians, whilst providing technical Drill & Blast support to the operation.


In this role you will: 

  • Lead a team of Mine Design Engineers and Technicians to deliver safe, executable plans to underground operations.
  • Review Drill & Blast and various Production designs to meet the 3-month rolling plan
  • Review and validate the controls in place to ensure designs for simultaneous activities support safe production.
  • Collaborate with various Technical and Operational teams, in the formulation of Drill and Blast designs and stope planning activities to meet the 3 month schedule.
  • Prioritise, monitor and maintain progress for all design work, using the relevant team tools.
  • Promote and practice a continual improvement mindset.
  • Conduct field leadership to ensure adherence to standards and identify gaps to process

About You

To be successful in the role you will have: 

  • Degree qualifications in Mining Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of mining industry experience.
  • Broad understanding of the mining and processing industry.
  • Underground mine experience, preferably within Sub-level Open Stoping methods.
  • An understanding of the risks involved in executing Drill & Blast plans, and an ability to facilitate safety discussions with stakeholders to validate critical controls.
  • A high level of technical proficiency in underground Drill & Blast.
  • Excellent time management enabling you to prioritise your work; and that of the team.
  • A proven track record in developing the skills of junior technical people and leading teams.
  • Computer literacy with the latest mining software packages such as Deswik, and highly competent in Excel.
  • Ability to work productively and co-operatively aligning with the BHP charter values.
  • Ability to identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and cost.
  • Completion of practical underground time will be highly advantageous.
