The Carrapateena Team is accountable for delivering value at the Asset in the short, medium and long term, against the needs of all stakeholders.  With an immediate and core focus on delivery production outcomes, they have a secondary focus on leading the expansion of the mine by transitioning from a Sub Level Cave to a Block Cave – this will extend the Carrapateena mine life beyond 2039.  At Carrapateena, we create a safe to fail environment where leaders support, trust and empower individuals to test our own thinking and question the status quo.

In This Role You Will:

  • As Carrapateena enters a new phase of production ramp-up and operational readiness for the block cave, you will be responsible for guiding the production engineers and using the Production Management Plan and guidelines to identify and drive production, safety, process and systems improvements.
  • Executing the 13-week mine production plan, encompassing production physicals and vertical development (raise bore), while maintaining safety performance and cost compliance to budget. Working with key Operations contractors will be crucial to success.
  • Provide input into the mining methodology and schedules as well as reviewing and signing off plans. You will do this through providing the interface between our BHP Mining and Technology Team (the planners) and our numerous mining contract partners (those doing the work).
  • You will be actively working with several contracting partners; engaging and collaborating with these contractors to ensure their performance is reflective of our business expectations and aspirations.
  • Being a leader amongst the short-term technical services team; providing guidance and mentoring to Engineers, several of which will be your direct reports. To do this you will require strong leadership qualities and emotional intelligence.
  • This is a leadership role within the Carrapateena Mining Team, the team with the largest workforce on site, and with it comes the responsibility and opportunity to have a significant impact on the performance, safety and culture of the operation.

About You:

  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated experience in safety leadership.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in underground mining, specific experience in Production; SLC or BC experience highly regarded.
  • Experience in mine design, scheduling, and production activities.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
  • Completed UG experience (minimum one year) is essential.
  • Ability to interact successfully with multiple internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in contract administration highly regarded.
  • Project management experience highly regarded.
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills are key.
