About the Role
Prominent Hill is a copper-gold mine, a long-life asset, that is part of the BHP South Australia copper province. BHP is a global company with operations in Australia, North and South America across 5 different commodities.
Reporting to the Superintendent Production and Survey, you will be a key member of our dynamic and results-driven team as we continue to focus on safety, production, performance and business improvement.
You’ll be a valued and trusted technical leader and advisor for the production team and drive initiatives that enable operational excellence as site ramps up production post completion of the Wira Shaft and Prominent Hill Operations Expansion (PHOX). Your experience in Mining Engineering will allow you to provide team leadership and enable coaching and mentoring of developing engineers.
This role is critical in supporting the production team in day-to-day problem solving and identifying improvement opportunities through data analysis or in-field observations.
Regularly engaging with frontline crews and planning, you’ll be determining the practicality of new ideas, and supporting development of plans / schedules / forecasts. You can also expect to be involved with assessing equipment capability, creating operating standards, procedures and work instructions.
Location: Prominent Hill, South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 8 days on; 6 days off
In this role you will:

Oversee and contribute to the design of drilling, blasting and production plans

Liaise with all stakeholders to ensure drill and blast designs meet site requirements

Regular time-in-field (multiple times a swing) to ensure drill and blast activities are achieved in a safe and efficient manner, with regular QA/QC

Review of drilling, blasting and production plans as required

Review stope reconciliations/abandonments upon completion including identification of improvement opportunities

Manage and monitor the iKon III electronic blasting system

Deliver mine production projects for operational readiness

Monitoring of task progression and adherence to the weekly, 3MRP and quarterly schedules

Undertake incident investigations and implement actions leading to continuous improvement of the site’s safety performance

Mentoring, development and support of the Production Engineering team
About You
-
Significant experience working in an underground, hard rock, metalliferous mine environment, supported by a tertiary qualification

Underground practical experience completed

Proven experience in drill and blast design in sub-level open stoping

Previous experience in short and medium-term scheduling is advantageous

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships across different levels and stakeholder groups

A focus on actively promoting safe production and processes

Flexibility to work independently in office and underground

Experience leading a team of technical professionals with mentoring and coaching activities

Extensive software experience with the Deswik suite
