About the Role
Joining the WAIO Geoscience Strategic Modelling team offers a unique opportunity to deepen mineral systems understanding and unlock long‑term value from our Western Australia Iron Ore operations. As a Senior Resource Geologist, you will apply advanced geological and geostatistical techniques to complex iron ore systems, influencing Life of Asset planning, strategic investments and statutory Mineral Resource reporting. You’ll collaborate closely with diverse technical teams, contribute as a JORC and SEC Competent Person, and play a key role in mentoring others in parallel to actively driving continuous improvement. About the role
- Ensure timely delivery of validated geological models and resource estimates with a customer focused mindset.
- Apply advanced linear and non-linear estimation techniques, including OK, LUC, and Conditional Simulation to complex geological domains.
- Communicate geological uncertainty, risk and opportunities.
- Work closely with key stakeholders across the business including Mine Planning, Geotechnical Engineering, Metallurgy, Short-term Modelling, Closure and Technology teams.
- Act as a JORC and SEC Competent Person, responsible for review, governance and sign-off.
- Drive improvement projects to increase efficiencies.
- Coach and mentor junior team members fostering a culture of technical excellence.
About You
- A degree qualified geologist who has capabilities in constructing geological models and mineral resource estimates.
- Someone with strong communication skills who is keen to understand the needs of your customers and other team members.
- Someone who enjoys working with complex spatial datasets and is enthusiastic about supporting improvement projects and managing process changes.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Geostatistics is highly desirable.
- Have an interest in developing skills in programming languages such as Python, C-shell and R for example.
- Have good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands and demonstrated ability to reliably meet project milestones and deadlines.
