About the Role
As one of Australia’s largest mines and most complex minerals processing operations, it’s quite unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver.
We are seeking a Senior Tailings Engineer to join the team at Olympic Dam. Reporting to the Superintendent Dams, you will work within a team overseeing the integrity, safety, and governance of the tailings storage facilities and evaporation ponds at Olympic Dam. In this role we work closely with Operations, Projects, Directional Studies and Corporate Tailings Excellence teams to ensure safe and efficient operation of our dam infrastructure.
In this role you will have opportunities to further develop as a dam professional by undertaking the Future Tails program, an industry leading global tailings management program developed through partnership between The University of Western Australia, Rio Tinto and BHP.
This role will be based in Olympic Dam on a 5/2 4/3 roster with flexibility from working at home and the Olympic Dam head office in Adelaide. We can accommodate FIFO ex-Adelaide or residential in Roxby Downs.
In this role you will:
- Respond to dam integrity issues, support operations with remedial actions;
- Critical control ownership, activities & verifications;
- Interpret data related to the safe operation of the dam;
- Management of contractors & consultants to deliver value;
- Identify safe operational practices, including field leadership activities;
- Share knowledge, contacts, experience & expertise in order to provide for the safety of the dams.
- Ensure all statutory reporting requirements are met;
- Interface between operations & other functions, such as projects, planning, environment, risk; and
- Oversee wall raise planning, water balance strategy and critical stability programs of work.
About You
- Bachelor degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining, or other tertiary qualifications relating to water management such as Hydrology, Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering;
- Experience in Tailings or water dam management, dam assessment, general water management, or hydrological assessment;
- Experience with managing operational upstream raised TSFs.
- Extensive slope stability and geomechanics knowledge base; and
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills & the ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels and disciplines.
