About the Role

Works to ensure a considered, coordinated and consistent approach to stakeholder communication and engagement for the Australian Petroleum business including internal, external, government and community groups.  Coordinates integration of Corporate Affairs strategies and Stakeholder Engagement plans with Asset and Functional plans and monitor/review for alignemnt with BHP's social value framework.

  • Contribute to the development of the Petroleum Corporate Affairs strategic plan
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the Petroleum Australia Social Investment Plan
  • Contribute to continuously improving social performance in alignment with Company standards and external commitments.
  • Advise CA leadership and Asset team on key social risks to BHP, and contribute to the development of suitable strategies to prevent and mitigate risks.
  • Contribute to the Company-wide issues management process
  • Contributes to community and social performance reporting for Petroleum

About the Role Cont.

  • Contributes to and implements Asset Social Investment Plan, Community Development Management Plan and Stakeholder Engagement Plan
  • Contributes to the development of social investment budgets
  • Works with potential partners to develop  quality social investment projects and programs designed
  • Regular monitoring of social investment projects to ensure achievement of outcomes to agreed timelines and budgets
  • Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand priority issues and concerns, and ensure complaints are identified and  addressed to enhance BHP’s reputation and standing in the community. 
  • Contribute to communications plans and responses to Community media, investors and other stakeholders as required.
  • Deep interest and experience in community and government engagement strategy and implementation
  • Experience in stakeholder management and planning and ability to collaborate with senior stakeholders across multiple sites / global locations
  • Strong project management skills to meet deadlines, establish clear priorities quickly and bring projects to completion on time and within budget
  • Experience in socio-political analysis and gathering research and support for content
  • Understanding of Corporate Affairs and its role in the management of the Company's license to operate
  • Ability to understand broader Corporate Affairs strategy and ensure deliverables are aligned to this strategy

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Master's, MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • 5 +  years' experience in government, public affairs or stakeholder relations, ideally with a focus on corporate affairs for a global energy or natural resources company
  • Knowledge of BHP operations and structure and understanding of the petroleum and resources industry is desired 
  • Recognizes where there may be conflict of priorities and works to reach a solution that benefits both parties
  • Takes action to influence others through the careful preparation of data and the provision of options/choices for discussion
  • Demonstrates a willingess to adapt to new processes and systems within their work
  • Observes the work process to identify new solutions to problems
  • Proactively shares risk information and escalates issues when required to effectively manage risk
  • Promotes the goals of the teams and interacts with members with collective and supportive approch to their attainment
  • Engagemts with stakeholders to build influence and trust in support of business outcomes 
  • Able to identify and analyse simple problems and make recommendations
  • Able to effectively identify or seeks clarity on decisions that can be made and which need to be escalated
