About the Role
Surface Control Operations Specialists ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Olympic Dam Surface facilities.
They operate and monitor the Concentrator, Smelter, Acid Plant–Feed Prep, Hydromet, and Refinery through the Citect SCADA system, maintaining stable production and meeting safety and process performance targets on a shift-by-shift basis.
The team comprises multiple specialist roles, each aligned to specific plant areas, with an intent that team members will develop the capability to operate across multiple parts of the Surface Operations over time.
In this full-time permanent role, you will have an option of either living locally at Roxby Downs or FIFO from Adelaide. You will be working on a 7-day shift, 7 days off, 7-night shift, and 7 days off roster.
In this role you will:
- Assist Shift Supervisor by monitoring the performance of equipment and tasks to ensure productivity is safely maximised.
- Operate the Surface Assets in a safe manner from the Control Room using Citect.
- Monitor and improve plant throughput and processes, via communications with Production Technicians and by use of Citect and other Business systems.
- Establish collaborative working relationships within the Control Operations team and other departments
- Ensure effective exchange of information at shift changeover
- Identify and engage with other teams, to ensure maximum utilisation of time and resources
- Embrace a process safety methodology for the operation of the assets through the review and improvement of processes and procedures.
- Demonstrate the ability to make timely decisions and work calmly in high pressure situations.
- Develop skills in Plant Operation across multiple areas.
- Use SAP to enter maintenance notifications, and maintain adequate consumable supplies, as well as for entering and investigating incidents as required.
- Contribute to and support the Shift Supervisor’s decisions and communicate these to team members.
About You
As a successful candidate you will possess the following:
- Ability to work effectively within a chemical or minerals processing operation.
- Experience using control systems including or similar to CITECT / SCADA, and OSI PI.
- Experience in Sulfuric Acid Plant operation and/or completion of a Boiler ticket is advantageous.
- Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable, and coach others through role confirmations
- The ability to collaborate and communicate across multiple levels and disciplines.
- Ability to interpret critical information and make decisions.
- Enthusiast to learn new skills and accept challenges.
- Good computer literacy with the ability to use SAP to enter maintenance notifications, order consumables, and incident investigations.
