About The roles:
We are currently seeking expressions of interest for Control Systems Engineers to join our WAIO Control Systems Team. Whether you’re looking for FIFO, residential, or Perth-based opportunities in our award-winning City Square office, we offer a variety of roles that can suit different lifestyles and career goals.
The rosters for these roles are:
- Perth based 24x7 team – family friendly lifestyle roster with a pattern of 3D2N5O 2D2N5O 2D3N4O over 28 day cycle
- Site based in BHP mines, port or non-process infrastructure teams – 5D2O 4D3O or variation of (e.g. 4D3O or 1 day a week working in Perth)

You will be responsible for but not limited to:
- Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
- Provide control systems support to breakdowns and production critical issues. The Perth role provides first response investigation and resolution of control systems breakdowns to the operation to ensure business continuity and minimise downtime
- Investigate and identify the root cause of related downtime caused by control systems and identify and execute solutions to prevent repeat events from occurring.
- Initiate and implement control systems improvement work to achieve safer and more reliable plant, thereby maintaining and improving process efficiencies, in line with our business plan
- Design, review and execute PLC and SCADA changes.
- Execute control systems design and commissioning for plant modifications and new equipment installation.
- Provide technical stewardship through a variety of work in the electrical and control systems space.
- Provide governance on proposed control systems changes on site including critical control effectiveness test and verification.
- Overriding commitment to achieve the best outcome for control systems safety, design and execution.
About You:
We’re looking for individuals who are passionate, eager to learn, and committed to making a positive impact. Whether you’re an experienced Control Systems Engineer or someone with transferable skills and a strong desire to grow in this field, we want to hear from you.
You may have qualifications such as a degree in Electrical, Mechatronic, or Control Systems Engineering, or trade qualifications in Electrical or Instrumentation. Experience with PLCs (particularly Allen Bradley RSLogix5000 or Studio5000) and SCADA systems like Citect is valuable.
Additional experience that would be beneficial (but not required) includes:
- TÜV Functional Safety Engineer qualification or equivalent
- VSD (VVVF) configuration and diagnostics
- Familiarity with field communication protocols (e.g., DeviceNet, EthernetIP, Profibus, Modbus)
- Previous control systems experience with Balance Machines (Reclaimer, Stacker & Shiploader), Car Dumper/Load Out, Conveyors and Shuttles.
- Experience in power transmission, utilities and water treatment plants technologies like RTU’s, XTRANS, Panelviews, WinCC HMIs and Siemens products
- Previous experience with design and commissioning
- Exposure to sensors and actuators (variable speed drives, analogue and discrete sensors)
