  • Demonstrated experience in designing and securing ICS/SCADA environments in the mining, rail, utilities, or energy sectors
  • Hands-on configuration and hardening of ICS technologies from vendors such as Siemens, ABB, Schneider Electric, Rockwell Automation, Honeywell, etc.
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols and their inherent secure weaknesses.
  • Delivered or advised on network segmentation using firewalls, VLANs, industrial switches,and data diodes
  • Participated in or led ICS security assessments, threat modelling, and penetration testing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cyber Security, Computer Science, or related discipline
  • Cybersecurity related certifications like CISSP, CISM, CISA and SANS certifications
  • Sound knowledge & implementation skills of security standards and frameworks like ISO 27000 series standards, ISA/IEC 62443, NIST and OWASP top 10
  • Strong network security skills wit good understanding of OSI layer 3 and 4 networking and fundamentals of packet capture and decoding.

 

 

About the Role

Technology is a global function within BHP that builds and maintains Reliable, Impactful, Safe and Efficient Technology. Cybersecurity is a key part of this team that manages BHP's internal and external attack surface, safeguarding our people, data, and business operations against evolving threats.

 

Specialist Cybersecurity OT & Control Systems is responsible for assisting with securing operational technology environments across BHP's mining operations - including rail, ports, processing plants and industrial control systems (ICS). The role is responsible for designing, assessing, and governing secure OT architectures, enforcing segmentation and integrating security controls tailored to complex, safety-critical environments.

 

In this role, your key accountabilities will include:

  • Assist in the design and implementation of secure reference architectures for OT environments, aligned with BHP OT Security Standards for industrial systems
  • Assist defining and enforcing robust segmentation strategies using Purdue Model-based architectures to protect Level 0-3 assets.
  • Conduct risk assessments of industrial systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), field devices, and communication protocols. Identify exploitable pathways and apply mitigations
  • Assist OT asset discovery and passive monitoring initiatives using cyber tools to gain visibility and threat detection capability in OT networks.
  • Assist with IT/OT initiatives ensuring secure access and monitoring controls.
  • Assist with strong identity and access management controls for OT systems, including MFA-enforced jump servers, least-privilege access models, and session recording.
  • Assist with OT security audits, penetration tests, red/purple team exercises, and compliance assessents
  • Engage with OT stakeholders to ensure security objectives align with safety, reliability, and operational needs
