About the Role


This role supports the Australian greenfield exploration team in managing all exploration related spatial data, with a focus on geoscience data including drilling, surface geochemistry, geological mapping and geophysics data. To do this, you will be supported by and work closely with the MEX Data Science team based on the MEX head office in Toronto. 


In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a growing exploration team in the following areas: 


  • Provide expert GIS support to both the Exploration Operations and Geology teams. 
  • Maintain and support improvements in data management infrastructure including ArcSDE, AcQuire and other commercial and in-house data warehousing systems.
  • Support the team in harvesting, cleaning and ingesting external and internal datasets into BHP systems.
  • Ensure the quality control of data used in exploration is of high quality.
  • Manage contractor and consultant support to the data management process for MEX as required.

Your experience important to this role includes:  


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent MS Office skills.
  • Degree qualification in Geoscience, Data Science or similar preferred
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting exploration and or geology team in the management of spatial data 
  • Advanced skills in GIS, database design and management
  • Good working knowledge of acQuire highly desirable
  • Knowledge of basic to intermediate scripting in SQL/Python or similar desirable
