About the Role

 

As a member of the Global Function & China sub-function for China Sourcing, you will be working collaboratively with the Procurement team to develop and maintain the supply base in Best Cost Countries, in particular China, to secure supply and deliver value to BHP. The role will support Value Chain team to develop and execute category strategy by providing market intelligence, managing supply contracts and relationships in China, and achieving value by managing supply chain disruption, inflation and supply chain sustainability. 
 
The Sourcing Specialist will provide the Value Chain with supplier pre-qualification, due diligence and supply chain solution to validate supplier capabilities and alignment with BHP values and standards. He/She will provide support to the Category Manager and end users in the Assets during the implementation and life of the contract. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Conform with the BHP Charter, Code of Conduct, GLDs, FLDs and relevant statutory obligations
  • Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety and environment responsibility and to sustainable development
  • Identify and introduce value opportunities, technology & innovations and the best practice in market into the Company
  • Support Value Chain to develop and execute category and sourcing strategies, supply contracts and trial plans
  • Collaborate with project study teams, project excellence team and portfolio sourcing team to identify sourcing opportunities in Emerging Market and execution plans in individual project phase.  
  • Prequalify suppliers in Emerging Market, develop and maintain the supplier relationship in market.
  • Support the business to manage the suppliers’ performance. Make sure the deliverables and performance of the suppliers are in line with project requirements.
  • Support team and managers to track and report key initiatives and team performance
  • Identify risks associated with managing category activities and business demand, and ensure that effective controls are identified and implemented 

About You

 

Ideally, you will have work experience gaining from a fast-paced commercial environment or similar with experience within mineral resources industry or other manufacturing industries which has significant global footprints. 


 
You will have the opportunity to develop your engagement and collaboration skills in developing stakeholder relationships. Likewise, you will be a self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills and a high standard of oral and written communication skills. 


 
You Will Also Possess The Following 
 

  • Post qualification commercial experience (of at least 5 years) from a large multinational organization
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills, global mindset and experience of overseas exposures is preferred
  • Work experience in mining/mineral processing/metallurgical industries and related manufacturing, engineering and/or construction sectors.
  • Work experience in major project execution is preferred.
  • International experience
  • Competency in project management
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team based environment;
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities;
  • An inquisitive nature and flexibility to work in a team distributed across time zones; and
 

Languages

  • Fluency in business Mandarin and business English, both verbal and written, is essential
  • Capability of business Spanish adds bonus value to the role
