About the Role
We are currently seeking a Defect Elimination Specialist/Engineer to join our Mine Mobile Equipment Maintenance Reliability team.
This role will deliver sustainable improvements in Mobile Equipment safety, performance, productivity, reliability and lifecycle/unit cost by consistently and passionately driving defect elimination across the Department.
The role will support the Mine’s value stream by prioritising improvements on bottleneck Underground Mobile Equipment.
This role will be based at Olympic Dam on a 8/6 roster. You can elect to FIFO ex-Adelaide, DIDO or reside residentially.
In this role you will:
- Ensure an overriding commitment to safety, including active involvement in Field Leadership
- Build strong working relationships with key stakeholders at all levels across the Business, including a focus on frontline teams
- Spend time in Field in our Underground Mining operations, including with our operational equipment and customers, maintenance teams and in workshop facilities
- Support and coach frontline teams with 5why problem solving process, action quality and implementation
- Collect and review data to support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) / problem solving
- Build, refine, and sustain Defect Elimination routines and processes
- Apply tactics and strategies and coordinate and implement actions to eliminate defects in parts, people and processes
- Monitor equipment performance and target chronic, acute and high-cost defects considering Business impact and value/ease
- Coordinate and implement solutions, leveraging our BHP operating system and utilising processes and tools including CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System), Management of Change (MOC) and standardised work digital application/methods
- Embed and sustain quality control programs to improve quality of root cause analysis.
- Lead and support improvement projects
- Coach and support all levels to uplift the defect elimination capability and culture across the Department.
About You
- You hold a relevant Engineering Degree or Trade qualification (or have similar qualifications and experience relevant to the role)
- You are motivated to do what’s right, seek better ways and make a difference
- You have relevant experience in mining, mobile equipment, manufacturing, processing plants or similar.
- Experience in leadership, reliability engineering, the identification of failure modes and equipment criticality, maintenance strategy improvement and optimisation, data analysis, technical support, troubleshooting, and solution generation is desirable
- You have strong problem-solving skills and take a collaborative approach to finding practical solutions, use multiple data points and take a planned and structured approach to solving problems.
- You have experience in the use and facilitation of problem-solving methodologies, i.e. 5why, RCA.
- Familiarity with downtime delay accounting and CMMS (e.g. 1SAP) is highly desirable.
- You are a team player with the ability to build strong relationships and influence, you work effectively unsupervised, are results oriented and highly self-motivated.
