About the Role
Provides specialist advice and executes tasks related to the development of original budgets, maintenance of the control budget, tracking commitments, estimation of accruals, monitoring the impact of changes and identification of trends and corrective/ preventative actions to influence on-budget delivery of the project’s objectives.
- Develops cost engineering methodologies, strategies and systems for an area or a major capital program/project.
- Defines cost engineering reporting requirements (format, timing and content), review, and approve contractor procedures and transactions.
- Utilises data from the project estimate, develops the original budget using cost estimates time-phased against the baseline schedule.
- Distributes escalation into the respective WBS elements when the project original budget is established.
- Predicts and mitigates potential cost impacts to the project by managing, monitoring and reporting changes in accordance with the Project Management of Change process.
- Develops and implements a contingency management plan and forecasts contingency spend to influence the on-budget delivery of the project's objectives.
- Maintains a current overall project forecast to project completion, including owner’s costs and implementation contractor’s costs in the cost engineering application / system.
- Forecasts planned commitments in alignment with the Project Master Schedule.
- Tracks actual commitments within the project cost engineering system as they are incurred.
- Estimates actual cost, including costs that have not been invoiced or otherwise recorded as booked cost as of the reporting date (accruals).
- Utilises the quarterly, published exchange rate protocols, converts the time-phased forecasts from native currency to the project reporting currency.
- Provides input to the Cost Estimating sub-function for the cost estimates of a program/project with actual cost data during execution.
- Reviews and authorizes or approves all commitments and contracts subject to delegation of authority and except as otherwise delegated to others.
- Generates reviews and analyses the appropriate, mandated cost reports monthly from a single data source.
About You
- Relevant tertiary qualification in a business/trade-related discipline or demonstrated equivalent business experience
- Advanced Excel Skills
- Strong problem-solving skills including organising and analyzing multiple data sources.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal), collaboration and interpersonal skills and able to work autonomously
- Previous commercial, project management or quantity surveying experience on capital projects in the mining, resources or oil and gas industry would be well regarded
- Project management software experience with applications such as Stature, Aconex, Acumen Fuse, Ecosys
