About Copper SA
BHP’s copper province in South Australia (Copper SA) comprises the Olympic Dam, Prominent Hill and Carrapateena underground mines, with smelter and refinery complex at Olympic Dam. The company is also progressing the Oak Dam exploration prospect.
About the Role
Reporting to the Lead Geoscience Projects in the Planning, Technical & Environment team, this role plays an integral part in supporting several mine site teams, including Carrapateena, Prominent Hill and the world-famous Olympic Dam Mine.

The role will be based in Adelaide on a Monday-Friday basis (with flexibility). Occasional site travel is required.
In this role you will:
- Use GIS software to capture, edit, transform, and analyse geographic data
- Source GIS, demographic, and other relevant data.
- Provide timely system administration.
- Manage geospatial data and its analysis, integration, and dissemination.
- Use our BHP Operating Systems to identify, problem solve and rectify system issues and implement improvement opportunities by determining the root cause, evaluating solutions and countermeasures, and managing implementation of actions to improve productivity, efficiency, and cost effectiveness in collaboration with the teams.
- Collaborate with your peers in other BHP assets to pursue excellence in all things GIS.
- Initiate and participate in Management of Change and RRRAs as required for new software deployments.
- Collaborate with Technology to manage software lifecycles and coordinate deployments.
- Support and contribute to 2BP and 5YP budget forecast processes to ensure inclusion of longer-term GIS business requirements.
- Seek regular feedback from customers/stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.
About You
We have a strong focus on finding individuals with the right values and communication skills. In addition, demonstrated ability to consolidate and analyse information, you will have the skills and knowledge to provide critical thinking and a solution-focused attitude.
Your success will be heavily influenced by your strong communication, stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, coupled with your ability to identify and raise issues, find solutions in complex situations, and decision-making abilities.
Ideally you will have:
- A tertiary STEM qualification (diploma or degree)
- Previous experience in management of enterprise applications will be highly regarded
- A broad understanding of GIS concepts including data formats, coordinate systems, and analysis techniques
- Coding and scripting experience highly desirable
- Excellent problem-solving skills, self-motivated, initiative, and an ability to work with minimal supervision
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
