About the Role

 

As a Health Specialist supporting BHP, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional Health performance outcomes across a dynamic, high-performing mining operation. In this role, you will collaborate closely with line leadership, offering expert coaching, strategic influence, and technical guidance on Health risks.

 

The Health Specialist is responsible for providing technical expertise in injury prevention and injury management activities. Through collaborating with the customer and building strong relationships with key stakeholders to create a culture that prioritises key health activities.

 

You will also:

 

  • Provide proactive support to line leaders in fulfilling their Health & Safety responsibilities, including risk assessments, field leadership, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Ensure accurate, transparent, and timely reporting of Health & Safety data.
  • Assist in the implementation of Health improvement initiatives aligned with the Integrated Operations Plan (IOP).
  • Deliver targeted Health training to operational teams, and verification through BHP’s field leadership practices.
  • Champion continuous improvement in health performance by actively engaging with site leaders, promoting effective field verifications.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to building a positive team culture and influencing others through collaboration and leadership.
  • Demonstrate a proactive mindset with a continuous drive for innovation and improvement.

 

About You

 

This role is ideal for a highly capable and collaborative team player who is passionate about ensuring everyone returns home safely each day. You bring a confident, positive attitude and are a self-motivated professional with proven experience in heavy industry or mining operations.

 

Formal qualifications in Health, or related fields providing technical expertise in injury prevention and injury management activities.

 

You will have:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications and proven experience in a health-related discipline (e.g. Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Exercise Physiology, Nursing).
  • Working knowledge of relevant Health related legislation across Australia, including Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WHS Act).
  • Experience managing workers compensation cases, including effective coordination of treatment and advocating for services to achieve best patient outcomes.
  • Effective communication and consultation with employees, contractors, medical and allied health providers, stakeholders, and business partners.
  • Skills engaging stakeholders to facilitate the assessment and management of employee and contractor fitness for work, including technical advice in pre-employment and medication management processes.
  • Experience delivering and monitoring health strategies and injury and illness prevention initiatives.
  • Supporting the delivery of health promotion and encouraging a mentally healthy workforce.
  • Possession of a valid C Class Western Australian (or equivalent) driver’s license.

 

Location

 

You will be part of the Jimblebar Mine HSS team, working on a fly-in fly-out (FIFO) roster of 5:2 / 4:3 from Perth. This role is available on a full-time basis, with the option for part-time job share. Flexible work arrangements will be considered to support individual needs.
