About Potash

BHP’s Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP’s first and most advanced potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP’s global portfolio. Jansen’s large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.


The Specialist Health Operational Readiness contributes to the design and development of the health and hygiene-related systems, processes, and resources to ensure operational readiness of the Jansen Potash Project. The role will provide support to the Jansen construction Health Team with the implementation BHP Health Requirements as they relate to operational readiness.  

About the Role

In this role, you will:


  • Ensure compliance to the various company health and hygiene protocols including the BHP Health Requirements and associated legislation

  • Support operational readiness by developing health and hygiene systems and processes aligned with BHP Health Requirements

  • Support the Potash Asset with the implementation of BHP Health Requirements during the lifecycle of projects to operating assets

  • Develop and/or prioritize health and hygiene initiatives to allow for efficient and effective deployment by the business, particularly including hygiene and phycological safety

  • Provide expertise on health and hygiene management practices to improve organizational outcomes and performance

  • Coordinate critical rhythms and routines that ensure an effective and efficient deployment of health and hygiene initiatives and delivery against KPIs

  • Support health reporting and execute data integrity and governance activities

Work Location

This role will be based at the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK.

About You


  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and/or Industrial Hygiene discipline

  • Ability to conduct benchmarking with industry peers 

  • Working knowledge of relevant health related legislation in Saskatchewan and Canada

  • Experience challenging priorities and plans to validate they are focused on what matters most

  • High attention to detail, motivation, and commitment to quality outcomes

  • Experience managing change initiatives

  • Ability to operate effectively and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment utilizing solution-based methodologies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, functional managers and discipline leads on the project, clients, outside vendors and contractors
