About Mt Arthur Coal

 

 

Mt Arthur Coal is an open-cut coal mine 100 per cent owned by BHP. Located in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales it's the largest producer of energy coal in the region, operating alongside olive growers, wine makers, horse breeders and the nearby residential community of Muswellbrook. About the Role

 

 

To provide maternity leave coverage within our Land Access & Environment team at Mt Arthur Coal, we’re seeking applications for a dedicated and dynamic professional to support the operation as a Specialist - Land Access & Approvals. We’re seeking applications from suitably experienced individuals who are passionate about providing exceptional stakeholder engagement and land coordination services. This position plays a key role in the protection of biodiversity, compliance and renewal outcomes for BHP’s land tenements.

Based full-time at our Mt Arthur site in the Hunter Valley and reporting to the Manager Land Access & Approvals, this role will require some in-field support, and a vehicle will be supplied for work-related local travel.

In this role, you will be working closely with various stakeholders, including land owners/occupiers, near neighbors and licensees, key government contacts for tenements and the Biodiversity Conservation Trust, so you will need to be a strong communicator, committed to positive community relations and possess (at a minimum) foundational knowledge in environmental, farming or land management. You will also be responsible for managing the biodiversity offsets budget and tenements portfolio, therefore proven business acumen, and experience being accountable for reporting and compliance are essential.

 

This role will be offered as a Fixed Term Contract for approximately 14 months. Successful candidates will need to be based residentially, and the mine is located a convenient 10-minute drive from Muswellbrook.

You will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Minimum of C class driver’s license
  • Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and within a team
  • Adaptable to new technology and systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible in role requirements and undertakings
  • Strong alignment with the BHP values of doing what’s right, making a difference and seeking better ways
  • Whilst not essential, relevant qualifications in land management, agriculture or environment would be highly regarded.
