About the Role
BHP is seeking a permanent Specialist Legal Counsel – Projects to deliver commercially astute, high quality legal advice on key capital project and strategic procurement matters across BHP’s Minerals Australia Projects portfolio. This role can be based in Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane.
As part of this role you will be part of a large, connected and high performing international legal team supporting on some of the largest and most complex projects in the mining industry.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager Legal – Projects, you will:
- Deliver strategic and commercially astute legal support for BHP’s Minerals Australia Projects portfolio, which will include a significant number of large and major capital projects.
- Deliver strategic legal support for our Projects Commercial team, covering project contracting, commercial advisory, and claims and disputes related to projects.
- Directly build and maintain strong relationships with our key Commercial and Projects stakeholders.
- Support regional procurement across BHP’s Minerals Australia portfolio.
- Manage external legal counsel engagements to ensure that the delivery of legal services occurs in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Work collaboratively with legal colleagues both within the Projects Legal Team and the broader global BHP Legal function.
About You
- Admission to legal practice in an Australian jurisdiction with an unrestricted practising certificate.
- Post Qualification Experience in commercial contracting, ideally in front end projects and major procurement.
- Prior experience working in a well regarded law firm or in-house in a legal department focusing on commercial matters.
- Experience with Security of Payment processes and adjudication preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
