About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Specialist Maritime Commercial - Iron Ore to join the Maritime & Supply Chain Excellence team in Singapore, as part of BHP’s Commercial organisation.
The candidate is a vessel scheduler in Maritime Iron Ore, responsible for developing and managing the schedules of chartered vessels to ship loading, ensuring efficient and timely cargo loading for customers. The role requires close collaboration with various stakeholders, including Chartering and Operations, Sales, Port and Integrated Production Operation, to align shipping operations with production and sales goals. The candidate will also be providing support to the commercial delivery of sustainability and productivity objectives, delivering optimised maritime solutions.
Maritime & Supply Chain Excellence is responsible for overseeing the company’s global maritime transportation strategy across our global production and customer network and managing the chartering of ocean freight to fulfil BHP’s inbound and outbound shipping requirements. The majority of Maritime & Supply Chain Excellence staff is located in Singapore.

Scheduling and Optimisation
The ideal candidate will:
- Prepare and refine vessel schedules, optimise routes and seek improvements in scheduling processes.
- Has ability to identify and solve operational and scheduling bottlenecks related to vessel movements and cargoes and manage competing priorities.
- Have high levels of attention to detail. Ensuring accuracy in schedules, cargo plans, and other critical information is vital.
- Have a strong set of analytical and forecasting skills.
Stakeholder Management
- Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with different stakeholders, internally and externally.
- Be seen as a reliable point of contact who understands operational realities and stakeholder needs.
- Develop relationships that encourage open, two-way communications and proactive problem-solving.
About You
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Science, Engineering, Shipping, Supply Chain or Business.
- Experience and Technical Competencies
- At least two to three years’ working experience in commodity, shipping and/or mining industry.
- Industry experience in dry bulk shipping or large industrial supply chains, including port operations and shipping is essential.
- Experience in vessel scheduling or related roles is preferred.
- Experience in the maritime sector, particularly understanding in vessel operations, is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Excel and Microsoft products
- Experience with SAP and Power BI applications
- Experience with computer programming language such as Python or Java
Languages
- Fluent English, both verbal and written.
