About the Role
Lead Maritime decision support through digital enablement, performance reporting, data governance to improve the effectiveness, reliability, and risk management of inbound and outbound maritime operations.
The role provides data-driven insights, maintains critical reporting and automation solutions, strengthens business’ understanding of risks and is accountable for good functional governance. The role partners with internal maritime stakeholders, business partners and technology providers to uplift decision quality, operational performance, and data integrity across the maritime value chain.
Accountabilities
Maritime performance reporting and decision support
- Owns and sustains maritime dashboards (MOP board, Performance Centre etc) and performance reporting used for operational leadership decision-making.
- Ensures timely, accurate, and automated reporting through effective use of analytics and workflow tools.
- Translates operational and commercial requirements into clear, decision-relevant insights for stakeholders across Maritime sub-functions.
- Leverages AI tools to accelerate insight generation, enhance reporting quality, and improve decision-support effectiveness.
Data governance and quality management
- Maintains stewardship of maritime data assets, ensuring data quality, consistency, and appropriate governance controls.
- Oversees data ingestion, validation, and maintenance of maritime datasets to support analytics and reporting requirements.
- Applies AI responsibly to support data interrogation, trend identification, scenario analysis, and preparation of executive-ready insights, in line with BHP data governance and risk standards.
Stakeholder engagement and coordination
- Engages a broad range of internal stakeholders to understand decision support needs and translate them into practical data and reporting solutions.
- Coordinates with technology teams and external providers to prioritise enhancements, manage subscriptions, and ensure continuity of critical decision-support services.
Risk and Governance management
- Builds understanding of key maritime and supply chain risks through data-driven analysis and insights.
- Shapes the Maritime function’s governance framework by strengthening reporting, data discipline, and controls to reduce incidents and business impact.
Planning support for Maritime leadership
- Works with the Commercial Planning team and Maritime Leadership Team to support planning activities for the Maritime function.
- Coordinates data, reporting, and analysis to enable effective planning discussions, prioritisation, and decision making.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Technology, Commerce, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Strong proficiency in data visualisation and analytics platforms (e.g. Power BI or equivalent), with working knowledge of data modelling concepts.
- Ability to work with large datasets and perform data interrogation using SQL or similar query languages.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to translate business needs into practical data and reporting solutions.
- Demonstrated experience delivering enterprise reporting, analytics, or decision-support solutions in a complex operational or supply chain environment.
- Hands-on experience managing data pipelines, dashboards, and automated reporting processes used by senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to translate emerging AI and analytics capabilities into practical decision support and measurable business impact.
Nice to have:
- Experience working with maritime, logistics, or industrial operations data.
- Exposure to digital transformation initiatives, vendor-enabled solutions, or process automation in a corporate environment.
- Experience operating within data governance or data stewardship frameworks.
- Postgraduate qualification in data, analytics, technology, or business disciplines
- Experience with enterprise data platforms (eg. Snowflake), workflow automation tools, or source-control environments for data solutions.
