About the Role
We are currently welcoming Specialist Maritime Voyage Operator where we have flexibility for this role be based at our Manila, Philippine or Gurgaon, India office.
This recruitment is part of ongoing expansion in our Maritime Process & Operations Team. We are recruiting multiple vacancies where we are excited to invite experienced Vessel Operator who are looking for new challenge and exposure in this market to get in touch and apply.
Reporting to the Team Lead, and your expertise are critical contribution to voyage execution, operations (voyage management), and process performance. The Maritime & Supply Chain Excellence strategy is to ensure procure the safest coverage at the lowest cost across container, break bulk, wet and dry bulk.
In this role, your key accountabilities include:
- Ensuring zero compliance, governance or safety incident across all voyages operated in Maritime Process & Operations.
- Records the financial impact of the Group's routine and non-routine activities and monitors the integrity of the Group's financial information through maintaining the general ledger, in accordance with accounting standards and statutory requirements.
- Completes voyage management activities to execute work in alignment with KPIs.
- Executes and optimises shipping practices by applying material, ship and port knowledge.
- Applies an understanding of end-to-end Supply Chain to enhance efficiency, drive optimisation, and maximise value.
- Determines the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems.
- Identifies, engages and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Gains support for and negotiates outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial goals.
- Applies an understanding of terms and conditions, laws, regulations and guidelines when conducting day-to-day work activities to reduce likelihood of financial/reputational risk and liabilities.
- Identifies, implements and evaluates the success of continuous improvement activities/initiatives to improve the safety, effectiveness and efficiency of BHP systems and processes.
- Applies an understanding of the business context, BHP operating model and ways of working to enhance decision making, productivity and value chain performance
About You
As a successful candidate you will possess the following:
- Demonstrate relevant experience as a vessel operator with understanding of safety and environmental impact for ocean fridge transport and act.
- Have strong knowledge of stowage calculations, voyage planning, bunker planning and purchasing, lay time and demurrage calculations and claims management.
- The ability to effectively optimise voyages and manage the risk associated with Time Charter; this includes making commercial decisions on bunker management, speed planning and scheduling.
- Have understanding of voyage economics, the potential impacts and proactively make decisions that impact your P&L.
- Has understanding and ability to interpret fuel price movements, market movements and hire rates.
- Holds a high sense of urgency, promptly planning around tidal movements, weather routing and the scheduling team’s plans for loading at key ports.
- Have a good understanding of charter parties in order to take responsibility for all commercial operational matters.
- Holds the highest degree of safety standards, reporting and escalating immediately all incidents to Sustainability.
- Can work comfortably across all levels of the organisation as well as communicating effectively and respectfully both internally and externally.
- Has high attention to detail, extremely organized and work within tight deadlines.
While not mandatory, but highly regarded:
- Experience with commodities such as iron ore, coal and copper.
- Vessel’s operations experience in the dry-bulk / wet sector.
- Freight systems, reporting and SAP system.
