About the Role

 

Goonyella Riverside Mine is an open pit coal mine located near Moranbah on the traditional lands of the Barada Barna people. It possesses the largest autonomous fleet on any coal mine site in the world and is also BHP’s biggest metallurgical coal mine in Queensland's Bowen Basin. Learn more about Goonyella Mine HERE


Reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent, you will be responsible for developing 24Hr and up to rolling 3-Monthly Coal Blend Plans,

 

• Develop and deliver short, medium, and long-term mine plans that optimise safety, production, and cost outcomes.
• Use mine planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, Spry, and XPAC to design, schedule, and forecast.
• Provide accurate pit designs, dump schedules, and haulage planning to support daily and strategic operations.
• Collaborate with engineering, geology, and operational teams to ensure alignment with business targets.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in productivity, recovery, and efficiency.
• Contribute to safe, sustainable mining practices across the operation.

 

 

About You

 

As the successful candidate, you will preferably have a tertiary education background in Mining Engineering in open cut coal mining,

 

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Geology, Coal Quality, or a related field.
• 3+ years’ experience in open cut coal mining (or equivalent industry experience).
• Experience with mine design tools (Deswik/Vulcan) and strong Microsoft Office skills; exposure to blending software an advantage.
• Clear and confident communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams and build supportive relationships.
• Solutions-focused, adaptable, and able to work through challenges with a positive mindset.
• Driven to contribute to team success and deliver outcomes that make a difference.
