About the Role
The purpose of the Specialist Payroll Improvement role is to strengthen payroll execution capabilities by leading and supporting initiatives that enhance accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in payroll processes. This position focuses on improving customer experience through Payroll delivery projects, ensuring alignment with business commitments, legal requirements, and BHP standards. Acting as a subject matter expert, the role provides governance, coaching, and insights to resolve payroll issues, connect with different BHP teams through relationships for high-quality service, and drives continuous improvement through global and regional projects—all while upholding health, safety, and sustainability principles. Additionally, the role requires solid payroll knowledge and proven experience in project stages such as Design, Testing and supporting the BAU teams after projects implementation.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and support payroll process improvement projects to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
- Act as a payroll subject matter expert (SME), providing technical guidance on payroll projects and specific requirements.
- Validate payroll processes to guarantee quality and alignment with legal and corporate commitments.
- Ensure that improvements / solutions align with other payroll solutions as well as the broader HR E2E process.
- Manage compliance and risk, identifying deviations and proposing solutions.
- Coordinate with HR global and regional teams to implement payroll improvement initiatives and projects.
- Provide insights and local context to resolve operational issues and support decision-making.
- Drive continuous improvement through data analysis, governance, and process optimisation.
About You
- University degree in Human Resources, Business, or Technology.
- 5+ years of experience in payroll processes, with deep technical expertise in taxation, benefits, and Chilean labor legislation.
- Experience in payroll projects within global companies, preferably in the mining industry.
- Proficiency in technology tools: SAP HCM, SuccessFactors, advanced Excel (Power BI desirable).
- Intermediate to advanced English (spoken and written) and ability to work with global teams.
