About the Role

This position is offered as a traineeship, with the aim of preparing participants who complete their traineeship for the role of Specialist Platforms and Networks in the Technology Operations teams at BHP’s Copper SA operations. The Technology Operations teams at BHP’s Copper SA operations are responsible for on site support of our operations and each team consists of dedicated resources specialised in different aspects of Technology, as relevant to each site’s operational needs.

 

Key responsibilities of the Specialists Platforms and Networks role are to: 

 

  • Work with varied customers to understand reported concerns and use troubleshooting/problem solving to identify the root cause and solution.
  • This is a broad range of tasks where you may be working with various internal and external Technology teams and vendors on fault finding and commissioning, with site based customers around equipment/application/system performance and within our own team on troubleshooting broader technology issues.
  • Complete preventative maintenance on all network and operational technology compute equipment installed within our team remits by completion of equipment inspections, routine monitoring/checks and proactive equipment replacements and software upgrades.
  • Contribute to our cyber security posture by proactively working to improve system security
  • Provide 24/7 breakdown support which can include implementation of network configuration changes, application support, server/compute hardware support and analysis of hardware issues to identify solutions, including configuring and replacement of hardware. This can involve working broadly with stakeholders and teams.
  • Perform analysis of networks performance, develop and deliver improvements designed to improve network reach, integrate new equipment and improve overall network stability.
  • Contribute to network design and implementation, contribute to overall system design and implementation
  • Work with a safety mindset in a fast-paced environment to make risk informed decisions and contribute to a risk aware culture to support safe operations.  

 

 

As a Trainee Platforms and Networks, you will develop skills and experience in all areas of the responsibilities outlined for a Specialist Platforms and Networks, while working towards a ICT30120 Certificate III in Information Technology and ICT40120 Certificate IV in Information Technology, with a specialisation in Networks. This will be supplemented with ‘on the job’ training and supplementary, vendor specific training as appropriate. The expected completion time is 3 years.

 

The trainee role will be primarily based on site at BHP’s Olympic Dam operation, located in central South Australia. Rotations to other sites within the Copper SA Asset (Carrapateena, Prominent Hill, Olympic Dam) may be possible throughout the traineeship.
Copper SA is BHP’s copper province within South Australia, comprised of three mine sites – Carrapateena, Prominent Hill and Olympic Dam, as well as our Adelaide based offices. Each mine site consists of an underground mining environment and minerals processing plant, producing primarily copper products.

  • Contribute positively to team culture through active participation in team activities, breakdowns and respectful, collaborative behaviours. 
  • Remain on track to complete ICT30120 Certificate III in Information Technology and ICT40120 Certificate IV in Information Technology within 3 years on a part time basis
  • Development of specialised platforms and networks skills through participation in on-the-job training and specialised courses as required throughout your traineeship.
