About the Role

We are seeking talented individuals to join our Decision Evaluation (DE) team in Santiago, Chile, at either the Specialist or Principal level. This role is part of BHP’s Portfolio Strategy & Development (PS&D) function, which also includes Business Development, M&A, Strategy & Market Intelligence, and Corporate Planning. 
 
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to BHP’s copper growth agenda—an area of strategic importance as copper plays a vital role in enabling the global energy transition and decarbonization of the economy. 


What You’ll Do: 

 

As a Specialist or Principal, you will: 
- Lead or support the framing, evaluation, and communication of investment decisions across capital projects, transactions, and strategic planning. 
- Apply robust valuation methodologies and financial modelling to support decision-making. 
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Technical, Finance, Legal, Strategy) to synthesize technical and commercial inputs into clear business cases. 
- Prepare concise, insightful reports and present findings to senior stakeholders. 
- Influence and challenge thinking to ensure decisions are value-based and risk-informed. 
- Contribute to the development of DE tools, standards, and practices. 
 
In addition, Principals are expected to: 
- Provide technical leadership and peer review across multiple evaluations 

. Manage a broad range of key stakeholders across the region and BHP (cross-functional collaboration) 
- Mentor and coach Specialists and Analysts. 
- Represent DE in strategic forums and governance processes. 
- Shape the framing of complex, ambiguous problems and lead high-impact evaluations. 

 

About You 


We welcome candidates from diverse professional backgrounds, including consulting, investment banking, corporate finance, engineering, geology, law, or operations. What matters most is your ability to think critically, communicate clearly, and apply commercial judgment. 
 
You will bring: 
- A degree in a technical or business-related discipline; postgraduate qualifications (e.g., MBA, Master’s in Finance) are highly regarded. 
- Strong financial modelling and valuation skills. 
- Demonstrated experience in investment evaluation, corporate finance, or strategic decision-making. 
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish. 
- A collaborative, curious, and commercially astute mindset. 
 
For Principal roles, we also expect: 
- Significant experience leading evaluations or strategic projects. 
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive alignment. 
- Experience mentoring others and contributing to team capability.
