About BHP Value Engineering Team
BHP’s Value Engineering group was established to identify, maximise and implement value-adding capability and performance improvement opportunities across the value chain of BHP’s assets.
We are a collaborative team of engineers, data analysts, data scientists and simulation modelling specialists, who combine these skill areas to analyse the end-to-end value chain of BHP’s assets with the objective to identify, evaluate and recommend opportunities to lift asset capability and performance in the short, medium and long term. About the Role
As a Specialist Project Delivery, you will be part of a global team reporting to the Manager Strategy and Planning and working alongside value engineering leads, principals and specialists.
Your role is to be a Scrum Master across multiple teams and an Agile Coach to bring best practices to delivery teams to develop value chain digital twin models and artificial intelligence solutions to predict future performance and design and track the effectiveness of value-adding recommendations. The successful candidate will support the delivery team, facilitate Agile ceremonies, remove impediments and shield them from external distractions with pragmatism. This individual is a personal coach for team members and an innovator pursuing continuous improvement, with the aim of maximising team performance.
Your main focus areas in this role include:
- Scrum Master working to manage end-to-end delivery across multiple projects that involves combining engineering and mining operational expertise with advanced analytics.
- Coaching project teams to enable them to deliver first class outcomes to stakeholders.
- Applying fit-for-purpose methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall, to drive successful project delivery outcomes in line with business objectives.
- Facilitating Agile ceremonies, communication and resolving disagreements that may arise both internally and externally to the teams.
- Proactively identifying and removing obstacles to team outcomes and collaborating across all areas of the business to achieve this.
- Managing stakeholders, sprints, scope, dependencies, critical path, risks, issues and milestones.
- Supporting the Product Owner/s with project and program planning, backlog refinement, identification of goals and engagement of key stakeholders.
- Owning and providing feedback on ways to improve the teams and global routines.
- Being inquisitive and continuously pushing for the next level of team performance and outcomes.
- Analysing and visualising project data to determine project health and preparing regular project and program progress reports detailing team progress, risks, issues and achievements.
- Supporting the team in the tools, including JIRA, Confluence and project management software.
- Developing, shaping and supporting the delivery of team culture to be inclusive and engaging.
About You
As a successful candidate you will possess the following:
- Degree qualified in engineering, data science or other STEM related fields is required.
- Experience as a delivery-focused scrum master in engineering or advanced analytics projects following Lean / Agile practices or leading iterative development teams.
- Experience in coaching, having difficult conversations and providing feedback to people on each project you have delivered.
- Proven experience leading people and driving greater capability and growth within the team.
- High level of openness and flexibility with the ability to adapt to business requirements – Agile is part of the BHP ways of working – it might have some nuances to what you have practiced before, but this works for us so you come open minded.
- Self-motivated with excellent analytical and interpersonal skills with proven ability to lead and scale implementation of data-driven advanced analytics projects successfully and rapidly.
- Experience managing a high volume of work with demonstrated ability to prioritise and effectively manage multiple deliverables across stakeholders.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and maintain composure in high-pressure situations.
- Extensive experience in managing complex projects with intricate interdependencies using Scrum and traditional Waterfall methodologies.
- Expert knowledge in tools such as JIRA, Advanced Roadmaps, Confluence, or similar. Administration and configuration of tools, including development of automation rules, project reporting dashboards and automated progress reporting, will be favourable.
- Presentation and communication skills with ability to influence stakeholders
The following will be highly regarded, but not required:
- Experience in advanced analytics, simulation modelling, digital twins, artificial intelligence (AI), generative AI and Machine Learning.
- Experience as a project manager delivering projects or studies in engineering, mining, heavy industry, or infrastructure.
- Experience in business, management or engineering consulting.
- Advanced studies in project management.
The position is open for Fixed-Term (12-24 months) or Permanent depending on successful applicants' skills, experience and suitability.
