About the Role

 

As a member of the Project Delivery Carrapateena team, you will provide Electrical Engineering technical knowledge and support project management capability across the full project lifecycle. The role supports delivery of projects in accordance with the BHP Small Projects Management Framework, site standards and approved performance targets (HSE, cost, quality, schedule).

 

Success in this role will be achieved through effective engagement with BHP stakeholders, external design consultants, construction contractors and equipment suppliers. You will be the key person for the Electrical technical integrity of assigned projects.

 

 

Based at Carrapateena, this role is offered FIFO from Adelaide or Port Augusta on a 4/3, 5/2 roster

 

 

 In this role you will:

 

  • Demonstrate strong safety leadership and ensure compliance with site and statutory requirements.

  • Manage electrical work packages through planning execution and close-out to meet cost and schedule targets.

  • Coordinate contractors and stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of electrical scopes.

  • Contribute to project scheduling and actively manage risks and delivery constraints.

  • Provide electrical technical oversight across design, construction and commissioning phases.

  • Develop scopes of work, technical specifications and support cost estimation and budget tracking.

  • Review and endorse key electrical design deliverables including SLDs, protection studies, earthing, cable schedules, Schematics and Block Diagrams.

  • Respond to contractor TQ/RFI’s and support HAZOP / electrical safety reviews.

  • Coordinate/support commissioning activities including FATs, SATs and energisation planning.

  • Provide practical technical solutions to maintain safe and reliable plant operation.

  • Follow 1SAP processes and ensure drawing and document control integrity.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards (e.g. AS/NZS 3000, AS 3007, HV standards) and site electrical standards.

  • Develop and facilitate lessons Learned following project completion to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

  • Collaborate closely with the on-site PCS team to facilitate seamless project handover upon completion.

 

About You

 

  • Proven commitment to safety leadership and accountability.

  • Electrical Engineering qualification (recognised by Engineers Australia).

  • Experience working across the full project lifecycle, particularly construction and commissioning.

  • Experience in mining (including underground), heavy industry or brownfield environments.

  • Strong understanding of HV and LV distribution systems.

  • Knowledge of protection systems, motor control, VSDs and switchgear.

  • Ability to review and coordinate CAD drawings (AutoCAD DWG format).

  • Excel and Word proficiency required; 1SAP work management experience advantageous.

  • Autonomous, detail oriented and objective in decision making to encourage “fit for purpose” design.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence diverse stakeholder groups.

  • Collaborative mindset with advanced interpersonal capability.

  • Experience with multi discipline projects (mechanical, structural & civil) advantageous.

  • Control Systems Experience (PLC and control logic).

  • Familiar with SCADA Systems.

  • Experience with Fibre Optic install and methodology.
